Verse of the day: sanctifie them in truth. (John 17. 17)
Sanctification begins with regeneration. The Holy Spirit instills in man this new principle of life by which he can become a new creature in Christ Jesus (see 2 Corinthians 5. 17). This work, which begins with the new birth, is done in two ways: mortification, in which the desires of the flesh are sumissive and controlled; and vivification, by which the new life that God has placed in our minds becomes a source that flows into eternal life (see John 4:14). This is done every day in what we call perseverance, by which the believer is preserved and kept in a state of grace, endowed with the power to abound in good works (see 2 Corinthians 9. 8), for praise and glory of God; and culminates or attains perfection in glory, when the soul, being completely pure, is brought to dwell with holy beings to the right of the Majesty above.
