Verse of the day: The god of Jerusalem moves his head behind you (Isaiah 37:22).
Having renewed their trust by the Word of the Lord, the poor and fearful citizens of Zion grow brave and shake their heads at Sennacherib’s boastful threats. Strong faith enables God’s servants to view their most arrogant enemies with wise contempt. We know that our enemies are trying to do impossible things. They seek to destroy eternal life, which cannot be destroyed as long as the Lord Jesus lives. Our enemies seek to conquer the fortress against which the gates of hell will not prevail. They hold back against the stings (see Acts 9. 5 ARC), to their own ruin, and they rush upon Jehovah’s shield, which is up, to their own harm. We know your weakness. They are only men and they are only worms. They roar and rise like the waves of the sea, foaming at their own shame. When the Lord Jesus rises, our enemies are scattered like chaff in the wind and consumed by fire like dry branches. The utter inability of our enemies to harm God’s work and truth can make the most fragile soldier in Zion’s armies gleefully despise them. Above all, we know that the Most High is with us. When preparing for battle, where are your enemies? If he gets closer, the pieces of clay (see Isaiah 45: 9) will no longer conflict with their Creator. Their iron rod will shatter them, like a potter’s vessel (see Psalm 2: 9), and their very memory will fade from the earth (see Job 18:17). Away then, all fears! The kingdom is secured in the hands of the king: let us rejoice, because the Lord reigns; and your enemies will be like straw thrown into the dung.
As true as the Word of God Himself; Neither earth nor hell, with all its multitude, will prevail against us.
We are the target of mockery and contempt, but God is with us; We are his, and the victory of the saved is guaranteed!
