July 10th? Daily devotion CHARLES SPURGEON

Verse of the day: the fellow citizens of the saints. (Ephesians 2. 19)

What does it mean to be called citizens of heaven? It means that we are under the rule of heaven. Christ, the King of Heaven, rules our hearts. Our daily prayer is: “Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven? (Matthew 6:10). We spontaneously received the proclamations of the throne of glory. We gladly obey the decrees of the great king, which is why, as citizens of New Jerusalem, we share the honors of heaven. Our inheritance is the same glory that belongs to the glorified saints, because we are already children of God, princes of imperial blood; We have already used Jesus’ impeccable covering of justice; we already have angels as servants, saints as companions. We have Jesus as our brother, God as our Father, and a crown of immortality as our reward. We share the honors of heavenly citizenship, because we have come to the general assembly and to the church of the firstborn whose names are written in heaven. We are entitled to all the goods of heaven. Ours are its gates of pearls and its walls of chrysolite; ours is the celestial light of the city that does not need candles or sun; ours is the river of the water of life and the twelve species of fruits that grow on the trees planted on its shore; there is nothing in heaven that does not belong to us. “To be the present things, to be the future?” (1 Corinthians 3:22), they are all ours. Also, as citizens of heaven, we appreciate your delicacies. Do the inhabitants of heaven rejoice because sinners repent? prodigal who came home? We are also happy. Do they sing the glory of triumph to Jesus? We do the same. Do you throw your crowns at the feet of Jesus? There we also place our honors. Are you delighted with the smile of the Lord Jesus? The smile of Jesus is no less charming for those of us who live in this world. Are you looking forward, waiting for the second coming of Christ? We also look to the future, longing for His manifestation. Since we are citizens of heaven, our attitudes and approach must conform to a sublime dignity.
