Christ saved us from the curse of the law, cursing us (because he says, Cursed he who hangs from a tree) Galatians 3. 13
God proposed [christ], in his blood, as a propitiation, by faith, to manifest his righteousness, reading to God, in his tolerance, leaving unpunished the sins committed previously. Romans 3. 25
- This is love: not that we love God.
- But he loved us and sent his Son as a propitiation for our sins.
- 1 John 4.
- 10.
If God were not righteous, there would be no requirement for the suffering and death of His Son; And if God did not love, there would be no will for the Son to suffer and die; But God is just and loving. Therefore, your love is ready to meet the demands of your righteousness.
God’s law demands: the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might?(Dt 6. 5). However, we all liked other things better. Is this a sin? Dishonor God by preferring other things and acting according to those preferences. Does the Bible say that everyone has sinned and lacks the glory of God?(Romans 3. 23). We glorify what we value most and it’s not God.
Therefore, sin is not a small thing, it is not a fault against a little lord; the gravity of the insult increases with the dignity of the insulted; the Creator of the universe is infinitely worthy of respect, admiration and loyalty. So, isn’t that insignificant? Defame God and destroy human happiness.
Since God is righteous, He does not sweep these crimes under the carpet of the universe; has a holy anger against them. Do they deserve punishment and that’s very clear, because the wages of sin are death?(Romans 6. 23). Will the sinful soul die? (Ez 18:4).
There is a holy curse that hangs above all sin; not punishing would be an injustice. It would be to approve of God’s indignity, a lie would reign in the heart of reality. For this reason, God said, “Damn him that does not remain in all things written in the book of law to do them” (Gal 3:10). ; Dt 27. 26).
But God’s love is not based on the curse that looms over all sinful humanity; it not only shows his wrath, however sacred; Therefore, God sends His own Son to absorb his wrath and bring the curse in place of all who trust in him. “Did Christ redeem us from the curse of the law, making for us a curse?(IG 3. 13).
Is this the meaning of the word propitiation? In the text mentioned above (Romans 3. 25). It refers to eliminating God’s wrath by providing a substitute; God Himself offers the substitute. Jesus Christ does not simply cancel out anger; absorbs it and diverts it from us to it. God’s wrath is just, and it has been executed, not withdrawn.
We cannot play with God or leave his love for less, it will never surprise us before God to be loved by Him until we recognize the gravity of our sin and the righteousness of his anger against us, but when, by grace, we wake up. For our own indignity, we can look at Christ’s suffering and death and say, “It is love: let us not love God, but he loved us and sent his Son as atonement for our sins” (1Jn 4. 10).
