Joel Beeke preached about Hebrews 12:1. 2, encouraging us to persevere in faith, to lead the race of faith, to abandon all sin and weight, and to look to Jesus, motivated by the cross of Christ, the joy of Christ, and the testimony of the Saints.
How do we persevere in faith? Just as Christ persevered. We persevere as a result of Christ’s perseverance and he gives us the means and motivation to persevere. We believe in the perseverance of the Saints, because we believe in God’s perseverance with their saints.
- Therefore.
- We too.
- As we must surround ourselves with such a great cloud of witnesses.
- Freeing ourselves from all the weight and sin that harass us tenaciously.
- We run.
- With perseverance.
- The career that is proposed to us.
- Looking at the author and Consumer of faith.
- Jesus.
- Who.
- In exchange for the joy that was offered to him.
- Endured the cross.
- Ignoring ignominy.
- And sat to the right of the throne of God (Hey 12 : 1-2).
The author of Hebrews encourages Christians who were tempted to return to Judaism, which shows that Christ is better than all rites of the Old Testament than the high priest of Aron and the mediator Moses. The application that the author makes after this exhibition. is: persevering in faith challenges us to run the race of faith, not as a shot, but as a marathon.
The text takes two forms: one negative and one positive
Negative: “To free us from all the weight and sin that harasses us tenaciously. “We must get rid of all the weight and sin. God hates sin and as a Christian you must also hate it. If you don’t hate sin, you must be wrong or you’re going the wrong way. Besides sin, should we get rid of all the weights?Anything that interferes with the course of the race, even if it is not necessarily a sin. Untangling a weight is like the Greek runner who wore the least amount of clothes so that nothing bothered him in the race.
You should also know that sin persists in us and we must mortify them. This is not legalism, but devotion to Christ, what prevents you from leading the Christian career?Do you want to exclude this sin from your life? Pray to God that he may hate the sin of all his heart.
Positive: “Regularly looking at the author and the consummate of faith, Jesus?Jesus is at the end of the race, saying, look at me!Look for me, look at me!I’ll never let you down!Come to me! We run for Christ, for Christ Himself.
First, the cross of Christ motivates us. The cross declares how terrible and horrible sin is. On the cross, we see the Savior facing our hell so that we can be saved. The great cross of Christ shows how small our crosses are, our little tribulations. Aren’t you motivated to follow this great Savior?
Secondly, should we be motivated by what made you happy?”In exchange for the joy that has been offered to you. ” The cross was not the last word. Jesus knew that he would overcome death and that after death he would be colored with honor and glory for his Father, having all things under his feet and leading many children to glory. You too, Christian, were the reason for his joy. motivate you to live for him?
Third, the testimony of the Saints: “for we must surround ourselves with such a great cloud of witnesses. “They, through life and death, say, “We run to the end by the grace of God; Will you be able to make it to the end, too?We have the Old Testament, the Saints of the New Testament, two thousand years of Christianity, and the brethren of our churches who say: persevere to the end!
Persevere to the end and one day you will be greeted with a glorious “welcome”.
