Verse of the day: Husbands, love his wife, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her, to sanctify her, having purified her by washing the water with the word, to present her to the glorious church (Ephesians 5:25-27)
The reason there is so much misery in marriage is not that husbands and wives seek their own pleasure, but do not seek it in the pleasure of their husbands. The biblical mandate for husbands and wives is to seek their own joy in their spouse’s joy.
- There is hardly a more hedonistic passage in the Bible than that of marriage in Ephesians 5:25-30.
- Husbands are instructed to love their wives as Christ loved the church.
How did Jesus like the church? He “abandoned himself for her. “But why, to sanctify him? And clean it up. But why did I want to do that, to introduce you to the glorious church?!
He’s here!” In exchange for the joy offered to you, have you endured the cross?(Hebrews 12:2). What joy? The joy of marriage to his wife, the church.
Jesus doesn’t want a dirty, ungodly woman, so he was willing to die for her?Sanctify and purify his wife so that he could introduce himself to a “glorious” wife. He had his heart’s desire to give himself up for his wife’s love.
