Five goals of suffering
Verse of the day: We know that all things contribute to the good of those who love God, of those who according to their plan are called (Romans 8. 28).
We rarely know the micro-reasons for our suffering, but the Bible gives us macro-reasons that support faith.
It is good to have a way to remember some of them so that when we suddenly grieve or have the opportunity to help others in their affliction, we can remember some of the truths God has given us to help us not lose hope.
Here’s a way to remember: five words (or if it helps, choose three and try to embarrass them).
God’s general goals in our sufferings include
Repentance: Suffering is a call for us and others to stop valuing anything on earth above God. Luke 13: 4-5:
Or do you think those eighteen people on whom the tower of Siloam collapsed and killed were more guilty than all the other inhabitants of Jerusalem? They were not, I tell you; But if you don’t regret it, everything will also perish.
Trust: Suffering is a call to trust in God and not those who support the life of the world. 2 Corinthians 1. 8-9:
“Because we do not want, brethren, to ignore the nature of the tribulation that happened to us in Asia, because it was beyond our strength, to the point of despairing even of life itself. However, already in ourselves, we have had the death penalty, not for trusting in ourselves, but in God who resurrects the dead.
Justice: Suffering is the discipline of our loving Heavenly Father, so that we may share His holiness (Hebrews 12:6, 10-11:
Why does the Lord correct those he loves and scourge all the children he receives? However, God disciplines us to make the most of it, to be able to participate in His holiness. In truth, at the moment any discipline does not seem to be a cause of joy, but of sadness; then, however, it produces peaceful fruits for those who have exercised it, the fruit of justice.
Reward: Suffering is for us a great reward in heaven that will compensate a thousand times for every loss here 2 Corinthians 4:17:
“For our slight and momentary tribulation gives us an eternal weight of glory, especially comparison. “
I remember: Suffering reminds us that God sent His Son into the world to suffer, so that our suffering was not divine condemnation, but his purification. Philippians 3. 10:
?? know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the communion of his sufferings. ?
