January 15th? Freedom of grace

Freedom of grace

Verse of the day: But God, rich in mercy, for the great love with which He loved us, and while we were dead in our crimes, gave us life with Christ,?By grace, you were saved, and with him he resurrected us and made us sit in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2. 4-6).

  • God’s decisive act in conversion is that He “gave us life with Christ.
  • ” even when “we were dead in our crimes.
  • “In other words.
  • We were dead to God.
  • We had no real spiritual interest; we do not appreciate the beauties of Christ; we were just dead of everything that mattered.

So did God act unconditionally before we could do anything to receive grace? He gave us life. He awakened us sovereignly to see the glory of Christ (2 Corinthians 4. 4). The spiritual senses that had miraculously died came to life.

Verse 4 says it was an act of “mercy. “In other words, God saw us in our death and had compassion on us. God saw the terrible pay of sin that led to eternal death and misery. And the riches of his mercy overwhelmed us in our need. What is so remarkable about this text, however, is that Paul interrupts the flow of his own prayer, to add that “by grace ye are saved”. “God?”, gave us life with Christ, are you saved by grace and raised him with us?

Paul will repeat it in verse 8. Then why does he stop the flow to add this here?In addition, the emphasis is on God’s mercy that corresponds to our miserable death situation; So why is Paul doing all he can to say that it is by grace that we are saved?

I think the answer is that Paul recognizes here a perfect opportunity to emphasize the freedom of grace. By describing our pre-conversion death condition, you realize that the dead cannot qualify. If you want to live, there has to be an act of God that is totally unconditional and totally free to save them. This freedom is the very heart of grace.

What an act could be more unilaterally free and uns negotiated than one person resurrecting another of the dead! That’s the meaning of grace.
