It only takes one

God is easily forgotten in all the madness of our busy lives. Who has time to pay attention to spiritual things?Sometimes we may be too busy, tired, entertained or too busy to deal with these things.

Or maybe, deep down in our hearts, we care, but we don’t know what to do about it. On the one hand, we have all these tasks, duties, and responsibilities that overwhelm us; on the other hand, do we have God?, the same God who says, “Shut up and recognize that I am God” (Ps 46:10).

Calm seems good. But we live under the pressure of urgent demands, does God really expect this from us?

In Luke 10,38?42, Jesus gives one of the most poignant answers

Jesus enters a village. And a woman named Martha welcomes you home, had a sister named Mary, who sat at the feet of the Lord and listened to her teachings, but Martha was restless with great service. She approached him and said, “Lord, don’t you mind if my sister lets me serve alone?”So, order him to come and help me? But the Lord answered, “Marta!Marta! You’re restless and you care about a lot of things. However, little or even one thing is needed; then Mary chose the right place, and she won’t take it away. “

Many of us want to defend Marta when we read this. Poor soul. She just wanted to serve. We can’t all be like Mary, can we?But Jesus’ words resonate in my ear every time I read this story: “something is needed. “I have to ask myself, do I really believe that?

I’m not used to thinking about what’s needed. When I look at my time management, I usually divide it into three categories: (1) the things I have to do, such as paying bills or feeding my children; (2) things you should do, such as exercising or cleaning the horrible refrigerator; and (3) the things I want to do, like going out to dinner or shopping with my daughters.

But Jesus, our Lord, said that only one thing was necessary, whether it was a suggestion from a friend or an idea of a great book, perhaps I could call it simplistic, but these are the words of Jesus, it is not simplistic. speaks to a woman’s heart and penetrates directly through each of her fangs.

Imagine God inviting you to a great feast. You see a beautiful table full of spiritual nourishment. Everything you really need is at this table: comfort, wisdom, peace, love, courage, joy, victory, forgiveness, truth, patience, and the list goes on. God’s will is that you sit, at the table with him and eat everything you need to be deeply satisfied (Salt 107,9) and equipped? All right, do your will?, (He 13:21).

But many of us don’t sit back and eat. You can take a quick bite and get out, but the small burst of energy quickly disappears. We can stay at the door, hoping that others who are already satisfied will bring us the leftovers. not only vague; it doesn’t make sense when we receive a personal invitation. Unfortunately, I see many of us crawling under the table collecting crumbs and wondering why we feel so spiritually empty and weak.

Come to the full table. Sit with your generous Lord and feed your hungry soul.

What else did Jesus say about Mary? Not only that she was doing what was necessary, but she had chosen the right role. Good was necessary, but also a choice.

Our body will not survive more than a few days without water, it is necessary for life. But still, you and I make the decision every day, drinking from a glass that literally sustains our lives. The same goes for your spiritual cup: “Though my flesh and heart fail, God is the strength of my heart and my inheritance forever” (Ps 73:26).

Jesus was Mary’s part, is he yours?Jesus said, “I am the bread of life; What comes to me will never be hungry; and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. “(Jo 6:35). Are your hunger and thirst satisfied in Christ? In your presence? If you eat leftovers, you won’t have an appetite for a healthy, fresh meal. And likewise, your soul cannot desire the bread of life if, like Martha, they occupy many services to you?O?Agitated and worried about many things? (Lk 10. 40-41).

Jesus comes to us with love and authority. Don’t give up his authority out of love for you. It is Christ Himself who tells us what we really need. The next time you’re tempted to think you have to do a lot of earthly things, remember what he said.

As the world advances in all its unbridled madness and many demands insist on our attention, we can become people who choose to remain silent, sitting at the feet of the Lord listening to his voice, because it is in his word that we will receive the good part we need most.
