Is your church God’s holiness? ? Mark Dever

“Be holy, for I am holy. (1 Pe 1. 16)

(See Ephesians 5: 25-27; Hebrews 10-12-14; 1 Peter 1. 15-16; 2. 9-12; 1 John 3. 2-3. ) This is what we live for! Human beings were created to bear the image of God, to transmit his character to his creation (Genesis 1:27). For this reason, throughout the Old Testament, when God formed a people to carry his image in himself, he instructed them in holiness, so that their character would approach that of God himself (see Lev 11,44a; 19,2 ). It was the basis of correction and even exclusion in Old Testament times, when God formed a people for himself. It is also the basis for forming the New Testament church (see 2 Cor. 6. 14-7. 1). Christians are expected to be holy, not because of our own reputation, but because of God’s reputation. We must be the light of the world, so that when people see our good works, they glorify God (Mt 5,16). Peter said the same: “By maintaining your exemplary behavior among the Gentiles, so that in what they speak of you as evil, observing you in your good works, they glorify God on the day of visitation?” (1 Pe 2. 12). This is why God called us, saved us, and separated us (Colossians 1: 21-22).
