This article is a summary of Gilson Santos’ lecture at the Interactive Faithful Youth Conference 2020.
Brazil is a legalistic country. We have countless laws and some of them don’t even make sense. When we think of the Lord’s law, we approach this concept as if it were a bitter and boring food that we must swallow. When we read in Psalm 1 that the Psalmist is pleased with the Lord’s Law, he seems strange and distant.
- But there is an extremely positive meaning in God’s law.
- It is the heart of God that beats with love for us to help us live well.
- Some believe the law began when God gave Moses the Ten Commandments.
- But God’s law has been present ever since.
- Eden when God says how to live.
- It is the expression of a loving and loving God who wants his creation to live well; there.
- In Eden.
- Is present the yes of God.
- A broad and complete yes.
- Who could eat from all the trees in the garden.
- It is enormous.
- It is a positive aspect of God’s law.
- But there were also limits of God that are not imposed.
- The law is in creation and has a very important moral and ethical meaning.
- And if this law is present in Eden.
- It makes sense which means that it is not only permanent but universal.
- This is God’s expectation for every human being.
- Not just for those who have come to believe.
- If we do not understand this.
- We will not fully understand marriage in Terms of God.
Some interpreters divide the commandments into two groups, one with the first 4 commandments, which refer to a more immediate relationship with God, and another with the last 6 commandments, denoting an immediate relationship with the next, but these two tables cannot be separated They have a great ethical and logical connection. Christianity does not break between religion and morality. God’s fear has a direct participation in how we treat others and how we live with others reflects our relationship with God.
Going back in time, we see that the sexual life of the Greco-Roman world was a lawless chaos, there was no shame in relations before or outside marriage, from the palace of kings to the poorest populations immorality reigned, to the point that many writers of the time wrote disgusted accounts of such practices.
Now think about the context in which we live, how does society think about adultery? He tends to consider only a harmless moral defect and not a violation of God’s law, which offends God. Even before, adultery was already seen with prejudice, especially in the masculine. Today we have seen so-called open relationships, a kind of relationship outsourcing. Moreover, it is the media that practically shape today’s mentality and culture and its role has not been the best.
It is true that the vast majority of the evils observed today are due to the violation of the commandment “you will not commit adultery. “From the point of view of whom God is just and loving at the same time, we can believe that He designed this commandment for our good!Any extramarital activity is adultery. And Jesus goes further: feeding lust in the heart, even if it is not physically, is a sin (Mt 5:27-30). Transforming the thoughts that come suddenly and enjoying them is something we are fully active and responsible for. Anyone who knows the Law will feel guilty in transgressing it (Ps 51:3-4), but we must be aware that this law is for our own good.
When we do not take this into account with regard to adultery, many consequences and other sins can accompany you: as unplanned children, abortions, extermination of your spouse’s trust; involves others in a more explicit way, even if even in immoral thoughts one sees the other’s body only as an object of use. In adultery, you are determined not to know the fullness of marriage.
You have to understand that there are three phases in each marriage, the first phase is called glare. At this stage you see in the other much more than it really is. This glare has its time and its role. The second phase is discovery. It happens at some point, most of the time. External assistance is usually required. It is also important because it provides clarity and a realistic look. Finally, the third phase is the best of all, this is the improvement phase. Those who manage to solve phase 2 well and manage to do so live a more mature, light and true moment, which is not based on appearances. But if you can’t invest in marriage in the first few moments knowing you’re going to pass, you’re sure to sink.
He 13. 4 says that God honors the immaculate bed. God is looking for pure, pure beds. The word? Pure ?, designate something that, in light, does not reveal any defects or defects, at a time when there was not so much lighting inside the rooms, people could buy defective pieces, then they would come out and use the sun to see the defects that would not have been noticed inside.
God is looking for people who have nothing to hide in the shadows. It’s for our sake that you order us not to commit adultery. It’s a sweet word from a loving father. If you have failed in this commandment, here is the call: look at the person of Christ, he is entirely holy, sacred, the lamb of God pure and immaculate, an impeccable piece that can be exposed to the sun. Trust him for the forgiveness of sins; Ask him to be your shield and your defense. Ask for forgiveness and ask for the grace and justice that comes with it, so that you can have a dignified and pure relationship with the other sex.
