I looked for a great church

With the advancement of the evangelical religion throughout the country, it is common to find a number of formulas of being and thinking of the Church, whether liturgical, aesthetic or operational, but with the disregard and even contempt of many leaders for Church history. the Church, her denominational documents and, above all, for the Holy Scriptures as a primate source of authority over Christians, many of these paths adopted end up being dubious and confusing, and more so. They do damage they don’t build, they confuse more than they clear up.

Is it possible that today we can find several groups? mainly young people, much more interested in the format of what they are involved in than in the content they consume and share, which characterizes a hollow exercise of the Christian faith; a dead, dysfunctional exercise, too worried about peripheral and cosmetic things, that do not generate life on their own, that envelop and entertain for a while, but pass like an eye open and close. They do not generate real transformation, confession of sins, repentance, Christian maturity and a new worldview.

  • I really wanted my church to be “great”.
  • To have a nice atmosphere.
  • To be great.
  • To have a good sound.
  • A beautiful scene.
  • Lighting.
  • A multitude of “open mind”.
  • A modern design.
  • A synchronized group and a message that does not abuse evangelicals so much.
  • However.
  • I have been worrying for years very little about the message being preached from the pulpit of my community.
  • Do you know this guy who plays in the group and thinks it’s too important to sit down? With humility and attention on the church bench to hear the Word of God through preaching the preacher after the period of praise? It’s a disgrace.

Today I still appreciate all these things that make up the aesthetic and operational commitment of the church, but with a vital difference: if the church is not modern, if it has a little of it and a group of young people only to the guitar, and not even the stage. If people are simple in everything and barely know how to speak evangelicals, but the truth of the gospel is preached fervently and seriously appreciated by the congregation, there will be a ray of radiant light of the glory of God’s grace. , you should never be belittled, replaced or desired less than all these other things. Without them, the Church lives, without the gospel, the Church dies.

To understand that there are no problems with the pursuit of aesthetic, functional and operational excellence, quite the opposite, the problem is to idolize them, to love them more than the foundation of the Christian faith, the problem is to value them more than the Gospel The problem is to be distracted by all these other things and not even to realize that the power of God residing in his Holy Gospel is , incredibly, neglected of the central concerns of the Church’s mission, to which we must be fundamentally committed. . .

The desire for all that is peripheral in the Church, thus dispensing with the esteem of the Gospel, is a path of spiritual death, which deceives, distorts, intoxicates and gives the false impression of commitment and communion, when in reality any source of support and real is suppressed the power for the life of the disciple of Jesus, denying him a real and lasting transformation. , coherent and above all biblical.

My prayer is that the Holy Ghost will give us discernment for biblical performance and participation in His church. May He help us maintain the essence of the glory of the protected and ever-present gospel as the foundation of every action we take, and that it is the power of God contained in this gospel that leads us to work in all other areas of life. the life of the Church, so that Christ and his revealed message will never cease to be the center of everything we preach and do.
