As far as daily (or not as daily) reading is concerned, the first day of January may be welcome. A new year marks a new beginning. You are motivated to re-engage in what you know of indispensable importance: the Word of God. However, this isn’t the first time you’ve felt this way. You had similar thoughts 365 days ago; and 365 days before that. So what, in the name of God, will prevent you from crawling in April of this year when the power to stand up has usually disappeared in past openings? From one pilgrim to another who stumbles, here are five suggestions for things you shouldn’t do in 2015.
Aim for the moon, even if you’re wrong, you’ll land among the stars!?
- This truck bumper phrase is bad advice for most situations.
- And is no different with Bible reading plans.
- If he shoots and fails? Six chapters a day.
- You just won’t land between them?Star? Three chapters.
- You’ll just get lost in space.
- It is better to read one chapter a day every day than four a day from time to time.
- Moreover.
- It never goes without emphasizing the value of meditation.
- Meditation is not a spiritualized dream; is the fixed reflection on revelation.
- If necessary.
- To meditate more.
- Is it easy to find a torrent of God’s truth.
- But without absorption? And application? You won’t appreciate the experience.
- As Thomas White once said.
- “It’s better to listen to a single sermon and meditate on it than to listen to two sermons.
- And not meditate on any.
- ” I think it’s also very good advice for reading the Bible.
When it comes to consistency in reading the Bible, an individual sports mindset can be deadly. That is certainly why many lose their energy; they feel like they’re running alone. So, to avoid the dangers of isolation, invite one or two more to join you in 2015. Set goals, create a commitment, and take responsibility for each other. Turn your personal Bible reading into a team effort, a community project. A daily devotion can also function as a companion and a useful guide. The Book of Darry for the Love of God (Volume 1 and Volume 2) and Nancy Guthrie’s The Discovery of Jesus in the Old Testament are two excellent options. [1]
Every morning we wake up with a new avalanche of information. I hear we’ve gotten to the point where a mid-week issue of the New York Times contains more information than Jonathan Edwards has found in his entire life. I don’t know if that’s true, but it certainly makes me think.
Therefore, it is imperative to set a specific daily time to be alone with God, even if they are a few modest minutes, protect them from your life, explain your goal to those closest to you, and invite them to help you. Otherwise, tyranny. Urgency will continue to raise its insatiable head. The urgent will quickly replace the important, and the good will replace the best. If your basic plan is to read the Bible when it works, you’ll probably never read it AND if you don’t control your schedule, your schedule will control you. This has happened to me more times than I’d like to admit.
Did you know that Leviticus, Chronicles, and Abdias were written to cheer you up?Well, here’s what Paul thought:
For all that was written once for our teaching is written, that through the patience and comfort of the scriptures we may have hope (Romans 15. 4; cf. 1 Corinthians 9. 10; 10. 6, 11; 2 Timothy 3. 16).
What a wonderful word does Paul dare to say that the whole Old Testament is for you?To educate, encourage, help them persevere, and fill their hearts with hope. Few of you will conclude that Paul is simply wrong here. Good evangelicals, after all, are happy to believe the word of the inspired apostles. But does our approach to our Bibles tell us otherwise?Do we act as if the Numbers, Kings, or Nahum have the power to fill our lives with help and hope?
Every time you open your Bible, strive to believe that God has something to tell you. Everything I find in your Word was written thinking of you, your dear son. Then look for God’s graces in this year’s bible passages. The strength for the present and the shining hope of the future await everywhere.
Your Father’s love does not increase or diminish according to your moments, if you are united to Jesus by faith, the verdict is already announced and there is no further appeal, you are accepted and received as the Son Himself. Purpose! Surely you will want to hear and follow your voice, if you really are one of his sheep (John 10:1-30; cf 8:47; 18,37). This does not always happen and does not happen perfectly, of course, but with sincerity and more and more.
So, as one more year begins, commit yourself again to becoming a man or woman of the Word, do not extrapole, do not do it alone, do not do it when you can, do not live as if Paul lied, or not Treat grace as a means of merit. Your Bible is one of God’s main gifts to you in 2015.
Open, read, hug and obey. May you be transformed into the image of the Incarnate King and receive nothing but praise.
