Much of a mother’s daily routine goes unnoticed, children, especially when they are younger, are very ungrateful and neglect much of what mothers do, which can be a great discouragement for mothers, which increases as mothers feel overwhelmed by their children’s souls. and see very little spiritual fruit from their efforts.
Here is a word of encouragement for all Christian mothers to continue their daily duties of service to their families; to stand firm in spiritual disciplines with their children that seem to have little effect. This word of encouragement comes from the great Charles Spurgeon, when he reflects on the impact his praying mother had on him as an unconversed child:
- On Sunday nights.
- When we were still children.
- Their custom was to stay home with us.
- So we would sit at the table.
- Read verse by verse.
- And explain the scriptures.
- Then there was a mother’s prayer.
- And we never will.
- Forget some of the words in that sentence.
- Even if our hair is gray.
- I remember.
- On one occasion.
- That she had prayed like this: “Now.
- Lord.
- If my children continue in their sins.
- It will not be out of ignorance That they will perish.
- And my soul will bear living witness against them on the day of judgment.
- If they do not cling to Christ? This thought of my mother testifying against me struck my conscience and touched my heart.
Mothers, I hope that your husbands and children will encourage and honor you regularly, because there is much to honor for the way you sacrifice and care for your families; However, they may not feel honored as they would like. the spiritual fruit you desire in your children. Take these powerful words from Spurgeon and continue with the tasks that await you this week. Pray for your children. Pray with your children. Pray in such a way that you communicate your unconditional love and acceptance, but do not hide your concern for your soul, which you can still feel if you are far from Christ. He never knows how his words of crying out to God for the salvation of your soul can impact you in the years to come.
