Help, my husband, to be a shepherd!

If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve already had this conversation, you know, in which he sought carelessly to bring out this astonishing news of his contact with God, or maybe quietly launched an idea for which he had prayed and asked if you think he might have been called to be a pastor. Regardless of your level of preparation, this problem tends to make a woman suddenly feel trapped in a flight simulator, unable to find a place to rest her brain. .

I know what it is. When my husband told me he felt called to the ministry, I thought, “You, yes. . . I’ve got Hmm?I don’t think so! After all, I know absolutely nothing about being a pastor’s wife. And by the way, how can you be called to ministry with my personality attached to you?I have firm opinions and I’m certainly not easy to understand.

I don’t even need to say we started with one foot back

My husband says that about 50% of women from potential church implanters or pastors don’t immediately see how their husbands feel. You can be part of that group right now. If so, here are some thoughts that my wise friends shared with me at the time. Time.

It’s his decision, not yours.

I have good news. There is no function of pastor’s wife or auxiliary wife of church implementers in Scripture. This means that it was your husband who may have been called to lead the church, not you. This does not rule it out completely (see next point). ), but at least it puts its appeal in perspective. I know I needed it. In the past, I wondered if I could really be a pastor’s wife because of the stereotypical images of what I thought was a good pastor’s wife. Understanding the distinction between his role and mine was not only a great relief, but it also allowed me to think. more clearly about what you could do to help and serve.

But his call demands something from you

I’m sorry, but you’re not completely exempt. The Word of God requires something from you; and I am sure that this is a requirement that you will gladly accept because it comes from our Lord. The young women, your husband’s marriage and domestic leadership will be examined (1 Timothy 3. 4-5; Titus 1. 6. 8). Are you also called to be a “hospital”? (1 Timothy 3. 2, Titus 1. 8), welcome believers and discreet people into your home? It’s hard to do without a woman. I also believe that we can infer that if certain attitudes of a deacon’s wife are required (1 Timothy 3:11), it will be the same for us.

However, I see everything this way: if you love your husband, you want to take care of your children, you don’t mind using your house as a place of ministry and don’t get irritated with some small accounts, then you’re almost done, go girl!

Trust in God during the process

It seems to me that this whole thing is essentially about faith. God wants to take you on a wonderful journey to join your husband and discover God’s will. The path you will take can bring both frustration and emotion, but our kind God is the right one. who made the invitation.

Ask yourself some tough questions, find out about your husband, too. Don’t be afraid to find difficult answers, all this is much more than just defining a call, God will transform you into the process. Yes, God will make his will known, but will this involve moments of frank conversation, while trusting in your Father who rewards those who seek you?(He 11,6).

More good news! If your husband ends up planting or pastoring a church, the challenges will be difficult, but the experience will be more glorious than you can imagine. It’ll be true for both of us! Then it’s time to pray, because for this adventure you will need it!
