We make this distinction, that God is the Supreme Being, and that we are human beings. So we think the difference between God and us has to do with these adjectives describing the concept of “being. “He’s supreme, we’re human, but do you know what the real difference is between God and me?It’s “I know. “
- Only he has in you.
- He just has an eternal existence.
- Anyone? What I have is temporary.
- Everything I have? It is dependent.
- It is contingent.
- It is derivative.
- It is a subset of pure Being.
This is what the Apostle Paul told athenian philosophers about God: “In him we live, move, and exist.
In other words. Without it, we could not live, our existence would be static, inert. Aristotle understood! Because everything that moves in this world must have been moved by more than himself, our movement therefore depends on the Being of God, in it we live, we move and we exist.
Let me tell you this. We argue all the time about: “Can we prove the existence of God?” We define God as an eternal Being from which everything comes and depends. I believe that such a proposal can be proved indisputably and shamefully in ten seconds. Ten seconds! We don’t have to jump into an abyss of darkness and embrace God with an act of faith. How can we?
If something exists, these glasses, something, somewhere, in some way, must have the power to exist in itself. Without it, nothing can exist. Again, if there was a time when nothing existed, imagine a vast void in the universe, pure darkness. Anything! Without stars, without people, without oceans. What can exist now? Anything.
