God’s story begins a long, long time ago, even before time exists; in fact, before space, breathing and stars. It all started with God, God, being Trinitarian (three in one)?Father, Spirit, and Son?, is Eternal (Cl 1:15-17). It has never had a beginning and will never have an end (Romans 1:20). It is impossible to understand this idea in its entirety. It does not have a time limit; he is the Creator of time and work within him (Titus 1. 2). And thousands of years ago, when nothing existed except God, he wrote a story of glorious redemption. It all started with the light.
God said, Be the light; And there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and makes a separation between light and darkness. He called God to light up the day and the darkness of the night. It was the afternoon and morning, the first day (Genesis 1. 3-5).
- In six days.
- God created the whole world in which we live through words.
- Created everything out of nowhere.
- Ex nihilo.
- As the Latin expression says.
- Started from scratch.
- He created the sun.
- The sky.
- The oceans.
- The moon.
- The anthills.
- The pines.
- The emeralds.
- The pigeons.
- The cumulonimbos.
- The lava.
- The watermelons and the kangaroos.
- And on the sixth day God created the height of his creation.
- The human being.
- From the dust of the earth.
- God formed the first man.
- Adam (Genesis 2.
- 7) and literally infused him with life.
Then God put Adam to sleep, took off one of his ribs, and trained a woman from that coast, Eve. Be sure to notice how impressive it is. Don’t let Sunday School paintings overshadow how amazing and wonderful it is. First, God spoke and all nature was born. He then created a woman (a new guy, totally different from Adam) from a bone he took from the man, which he created from the dust. That’s awesome!
Adam and Eve had a perfect and pure communion with God and among them, they were created without sin or defect and received God’s task of ruling the garden created for them, Eden (Genesis 2. 15). God gave human beings a lot of freedom. , but he also scrupulous a single rule: do not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 2. 16-17). They had a lot of freedom, but a limitation. From the beginning of the story, God has made it clear: obey me and you will be happy; disobey me and there will be disastrous consequences.
Sinclair Ferguson translates God’s commandment as follows. He said, “Am I not asking you to do this because the tree is ugly?In fact, he’s as attractive as the other trees, I never believe anything ugly! You won’t be able to see the fruit and say, “It must taste awful!”It’s a beautiful tree. So it’s simple. Trust me, obey me, love me for who I am and why you appreciate what I’ve given you. Believe me, obey me and you’ll grow up. Until then, Adam and Eve obeyed the Father and everything went very well (Genesis 1:31).
But this part doesn’t end with “thank you forever. ” Satan, a God-created being who chose to rebel against the good Creator, entered Eden in the form of a serpent and tested Adam and Eve to eat from the forbidden tree. He encouraged them to doubt God’s faithfulness, reliability, clarity, and goodness (Genesis 3:1-5). “Did God really say that?” he suggested maliciously. God doesn’t really care about you. He knows that if you eat from the tree, you’ll become like him. And he’s so selfish, he’s so thirsty for glory, he’s just trying to protect himself from the power you can have. Eat fruit and you’ll be like Dieu. No there will be more rules. Will you be free?
As we all know, Adam and Eve believed in this cunning temptation and disobeyed God’s commandment. It is hard to imagine what changed after that first bite of the forbidden fruit, but it must have been like a power outage in the middle of winter. The light of God’s perfect presence disappeared and a terrible cold must have invaded the place. Something was really wrong.
Suddenly frightened sinners, Adam and Eve, tried to hide from God, very shameful, but no one can hide from God, their Creator found them and punished them, there were consequences for their sin, as he said, and for this sin. , this rebellion of humanity against its creator, all mankind has been cursed (Rom. 5. 18). The Dutch theologian Herman Bavinck put it this way: “In Adam, we all sin and, therefore, sin has become our destiny for all. Adam and Eve, you and I, all mankind has been turned away from God and banished from Paradise. We were cursed”. by physical pain and death (Genesis 3:17-19), but the most significant was spiritual death. Paul, the skilled theologian, explained more deeply: “As a result, just as sin has entered the world, and by sin, so is Death transmitted to all men, for all have sinned?(Rom. 5,12).
Now our communion with God is broken, our relationship has s wobly, and we have no way of returning to Eden and our creator. In the midst of this catastrophic fall, God promised a hero, someone who would come and repair what humanity has broken. .
When God curses Satan, He said to the serpent, “Then the Lord God said unto the serpent, For ye have done this, ye shall be cursed among all the pets, and ye shall be among all the wild animals; will you crawl on your belly and eat dust every day of your life?(Genesis 3, 14?15) The promise was that a descendant of Eve would be born of a woman and wounded by Satan, but the final victory would be his, as he would crush the Serpent. Hope was alive, and this was only the beginning of the story.
