The center of the gospel is the death of Christ, and Christ died for sin. Therefore, there can be no proclamation of the gospel without a biblical treatment of sin. This includes explaining the hateful nature of sin and denouncing men as sinners. sin is, in a way, outdated, even in some evangelical circles, any honest consideration of the scriptures in relation to contemporary culture will demonstrate the need to focus on sin.
The need for clear communication about sin is crucial because we live in a generation born and cultivated by sin. [1] We are people who drink wickedness like water and cannot discern our fallen condition, like a fish that does not know it is wet. [2] For this reason, we must strive to rediscover the biblical vision of sin and the sinful state of man, on which our understanding of God and the gospel depends.
- As guardians of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
- We do men a skinny favor when we deal lightly with sin.
- Ignoring it.
- Or completely avoiding the problem.
- Men have only one problem: they are under the wrath of God because of their sins.
- [3] To deny this is to deny one of the most fundamental doctrines of Christianity; it is not a lack of love to tell men that they are sinners.
- But it is the crudest form of immorality not to tell them; Indeed.
- God declares that his will be blood in our hands if we do not warn them of their sins and the judgment to come.
- [4] Trying to preach the gospel without making sin a problem is like trying to superficially heal the wound of the people.
- Saying.
- “Peace.
- Peace.
- ” when there is no peace[5].
The book of Romans is the closest to a systematic theology we have in the scriptures. In this letter, the Apostle Paul demonstrates his theology to the church in Rome. He tried to prepare them for their arrival and hoped they would join him on his missionary expedition to Spain. [6] It is extremely important to note that the first three chapters of this letter, with the exception of a brief introduction, are devoted to the hamartiology or doctrine of sin. [7] For three chapters, the Apostle works with all his intellect and under the inspiration of the Spirit to achieve a unique and sublime goal: to test man’s sin and condemn the whole world!
It is common for Christians to insist that God did not give us a ministry of condemnation and death, but of justice, reconciliation, and life [8]. This is very true, but it does not mean that we should not speak enough about sin or use the scriptures to lead men to the belief of the Spirit in their sin. It is true that there is no condemnation “in Jesus Christ”, but there is nothing but condemnation outside of it. [9]
[7] Hamartiologia derives from the Greek word hamartia, which means sin and logos, what does it mean?Word “speech”. Hamartiology is literally a discourse about sin.
[9] This statement is based on 2 Corinthians 3. 7-9 and 2 Corinthians 5. 17-18.
