John Piper: 10 Reasons You Should Be Born Again
1. We die in faults and sins (Ephesians 2-1-2).
We are dead in the sense that we cannot see or experience the glory of Christ. We’re spiritually dead.
2. We are, by nature, children of wrath (Ep 2:3)
These are not my actions, nor the circumstances, nor the people in my life. My nature is my deepest personal problem. The truth is not that at first I had a good nature, then I did bad things and I had a bad nature. “In wickedness I was born, and in sin did my mother conceive me?(Salt 51. 5). Our nature is so rebellious, so selfish and so insensitive to the majesty of God, that his holy wrath is for us a natural and correct reaction. .
3. We love darkness and hate light (John 3:19-20).
We are not neutral when spiritual light approaches, we are resisting you. And we are not neutral when spiritual darkness surrounds us, we kiss them.
4. Our hearts are hard as a stone (Ezekiel 36:26; Ephesians 4:18)
Our ignorance is a guilty ignorance, not an innocent ignorance, it has its roots in hardened and resilient hearts.
5. We are unable to submit to or please God (Romans 8: 7-8).
Our spirit is so resilient to God’s authority that we do not submit, we cannot submit to Him, and if we cannot submit to Him, we cannot please Him.
6. We cannot accept the gospel (Ephesians 4:18; 1 Corinthians 2:14)
The problem is not that the things of God go beyond the understanding of the natural man; the problem is that he sees them as crazy. Do you realize this is moral, not physical? The un regenerated person cannot because he does not want; his preference for sin is so strong that he cannot choose good; it’s true and terrible slavery, but not innocent.
7. No can seek Christ or accept Him as Lord (Jn 6:44, 65; 1 Co 12:3).
It is morally impossible for the dead, darkened, evil, and resilient heart to celebrate Jesus’ dominion over his life without being born again.
8. Without the new birth, we are slaves to sin (Romans 6. 17)
We love sin so much that we could not abandon or mortify it.
9. Without the new birth, we are slaves to Satan. (Ephesians 2. 1-2; 2 Timothy 2. 24-26)
The special feature of un regenerated people is that their desires and choices are in harmony with the prince of air power.
10. Without the new birth, she does not live well in us (Romans 7. 18).
When people use all that God has done without trusting in his grace and without the purpose of glorifying him, they dishonor God’s creation, make creation an instrument of disbelief, and destroy it.
These are the ten characteristics of our condition without being reborn, so we must be born again, without the new birth, our condition is desperate and we cannot change it through moral improvement, the dead do not improve. Before anything else happens to them, the dead need to receive life, they need to be born again.
