Faith expels guilt, greed and fear

Verse of the day: The purpose of this warning is love that comes from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a faith without hypocrisy (1 Timothy 1. 5).

Faith in God’s grace expels from the heart the sinful powers that hinder love.

  • If we feel guilty.
  • We tend to fall into self-centered depression and self-pity.
  • Unable to see.
  • Let alone worry.
  • About someone else’s need.
  • Or act as hypocrites to cover up our guilt and thus destroy all sincerity in relationships.
  • Or we’re talking about other people’s failures to minimize our own guilt.

The same goes for fear. If we are afraid, we tend not to approach a stranger in the church who might need a word of welcome and encouragement, or we can launch international missions into our lives, because they seem very dangerous. We can spend money on excessive insurance, or get involved in all forms of small phobias that make us care about ourselves and blind ourselves to the needs of others.

If we’re greedy, can we spend money on luxury? Money that should be used to spread the gospel. Let us not undertake anything risky, so that our precious assets and our financial future are not compromised. We focus on things rather than people, or we see people as a means to our material benefit.

Faith in future grace brings love by eliminating guilt, fear, and lust from the heart.

It suppresses guilt, for it clings to the hope that Christ’s death will be sufficient to guarantee absolution and justice now and forever (Hebrews 10:14).

It takes away fear because it is based on promise: “Fear not, for I am with you” Do I strengthen you, help you and sustain you with my faithful right hand?(Isaiah 41:10).

And he suppresses greed, for he is convinced that Christ is a wealth greater than anything the world can offer (Matthew 13:44).

Either way, the glory of Christ is magnified when we are more satisfied with his future grace than with the promises of sin.
