“God is in charge. ” These words can be a wonderful comfort for those struggling with phobias, common natural fears, or even deep terrors. The reminder that God is in control often brings great relief.
But are there times when words are God in control? It can make the situation worse. A terrified Christian may have already fought against the fact that God is sovereign and has come to the false conclusion that God is punishing him, or worse, that God has abandoned him. At the root of so much fear and anxiety, there is not so much of the question of whether God controls (a doctrine that most Christians readily accept), but why God would allow Christians to experience uncertainty and fear. Awareness of God’s sovereignty can in no way be a source of relief, but only another source of doubt. , frustration and fear. Fear can affect people, even Christians.
- There are two points to consider in confronting our fears in the light of God’s sovereignty.
- The first is to consider these biblical passages (there are many) that tell us what it means that God is “in control”.
- (or better) understanding of God’s control over all things.
- We find that nothing that happens is randomly or beyond God’s will.
- The Psalmist reminds us: “In fact.
- I know that the Lord is great and that our God is upon all the gods.
- Did you do all that pleased the Lord.
- In heaven.
- And on earth?(Exit 135.
- 5-6).
- In Proverbs.
- We read that God’s sovereignty extends even to seemingly accidental things: “Luck kneels.
- But does Lord come every decision?”(Pv 16.
- 33).
- This information is given to remind us that nothing outside Of God’s will can happen to us.
God knows when a sparrow falls from heaven, and if he cares about them, how much more cares about us?(Mt 6. 26). Paul tells us that “does everything contribute to the good of those who love God?(Rom. 8. 28), and James says, “No one, when tempted, says, I am tempted by God; Why can’t God be tempted by evil and he himself doesn’t try?(Stg 1:13). Tiago adds: “Every gift bonus and every perfect gift comes from above, descended from the Father of Lights, in which there can be no variation or shadow of change?(1,17). God does not tempt (or frighten us). , He gives us all the right things and promises to do everything (even our fears) for our sake.
This short list of biblical passages reminds us that any fear we face can give glory to God, be transformed by God for our greatest good, and provide us with the necessary security when we are afraid. Heavenly Father who loves us and cares about us, even when we fear him or his sovereign purposes; still loves us, even if we’re not afraid.
The second thing to consider is that if anyone believed in God’s absolute sovereignty, it was Jesus. The Gospels reveal that although Jesus knew God’s plan beforehand and the result of his suffering would be a glorious triumph over death and burial, we still feel both fear and anguish before the trial of the cross. By solving Jesus’ fear and anxiety, we can find great relief for our fears and anxieties.
In Matthew 26:36-38, we read, “Was it Jesus? In a place called Gethsemane and said to his disciples, Sit here while I go there to pray; and taking With him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to feel saddened and distressed. Then he said unto them, My soul is deeply sad unto death; Stay here and watch me?Jesus also said, “The spirit is really ready, but the flesh is weak. “Then he prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for me to pass this cup without me drinking it, will your will be done?(V. 41-42). Luke’s account reveals the dimension of Jesus’ fear: “And in agony he prayed more intensely. And has it happened that your sweat has turned like drops of blood falling on the earth?(Lk 22:44).
Fear and anxiety are not necessarily a sin; Proof of this is that Jesus was anxious for his suffering on the cross; fear of pain or danger is quite natural; However, in the midst of Jesus’ anguish in Gethsemane, he always trusted that his Father would put up with the terrible trial Jesus can sweat drops of blood, but he drinks the cup of anger to save us from our sins. In particular, Jesus is an example to us when we are afraid, and His suffering and death eliminate any guilt we may have to doubt. God’s promises or fear of His approach or purposes. Jesus died for all our sins, including all sinful fear.
Better yet, we have a high priest, who never sleeps or sleeps, and who knows what it is to feel fear and anxiety, it is Jesus whom we pray to when we are afraid, and it is Jesus who intercedes for us as well as us. pray to him (Hebrews 4:14-16). That’s what it means to say “God controls. “
