Elections 2018: Open letter to the Brazilian Church

On the occasion of the celebrations of the 196th anniversary of Brazil’s independence in September and the proximity of the 2018 elections, during which Brazilians will elect state and federal deputies, senators and governors of their states, as well as the nation’s main authority, the President of the Republic, over the next four years, the pastors and down-signatory Christian leaders call on the Church of Christ in Brazil to constantly intercede country in the coming weeks, until the end of the second round, fasting prayer, asking the Holy Trinity, out of pity, to listen to our prayers and come to respond to the following requests:

1. May the LORD, the Trinitarian God, lead in his campaigns honest candidates, well-intentioned, committed to transparency and morality, with virtuous principles of life in society and with a Christian vision of the world, so that they may be elected to the positions for which they apply;

  • 2.
  • May the Lord.
  • God of the Trinity.
  • Change the hearts of those who are willing to vote for candidates involved in corruption cases.
  • Nor allow them to be elected;.

3. May the LORD, God Triune, restrict the representation of anti-Christian ideologies in our national parliaments and in the National Congress;

4. May the LORD, God of the Trinity, thwart any attempt at fraud in the electoral system;

5. May the Lord, God of the Trinity, allow no more confusion and other acts of violence, so that these elections may conclude in peace;

May the Lord, Trinitarian God, through the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, bring a true awakening to his Church in Brazil, causing an important and lasting cultural, moral and social impact, through men and women who bear fruit worthy of repentance.

a) For the election of the candidate, it is recommended to know their character, their ideas and the ideology of the party;

b) Support proposals that defend the dignity of the human being and life in all circumstances, from conception in the womb;

(c) Reject interventionist candidates in the family, educational, ecclesiastical and artistic spheres;

(d) Repudiate any ideology that opposes the principles of the Kingdom of God, that is, the biblical message;

(e) Support candidates who express their understanding of the state’s primary role in providing and promoting justice and security for its citizens;

(f) Finally, when referring to a candidate for friends and family, do so with opinions other than your own, remembering that even if you believe in the person you give and ask for a vow, as Christians, our maximum hope for perfect society Must be in the consumption of the centuries, when Jesus will rule again with a scepter of justice.

After the elections, pray that the elected candidates will carry out their mandates wisely and for the good of the nation, reminding us, when the time comes, of the words of the Apostle Paul to Timothy: “First, I urge you to use practical pleas, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, for the benefit of all men, for the benefit of kings and all those who are endowed , so that we can live a quiet and peaceful life, with all mercy and respect?(1 Timothy 2. 1 -2).

Help us spread this call to prayer for the 2018 elections by sharing this letter on social media and, if possible, ask your pastors for permission to read it in your church, whether in worship, Sunday school, small groups or other meetings.

May the Lord our God look to Brazil with grace and mercy!Amen
