When I heard this, my mind immediately returned to the 1976 presidential election campaign, when Jimmy Carter identified himself as a born again Christian. Around the same time, Charles Colson, who was an advisor to President Nixon and was involved in the Watergate scandal, converted to Christ and wrote a book called Born Again, which sold millions of dollars. copies and was made into a movie of the same name. Eldridge Cleaver, leader of the Black Panther Party, and even Larry Flynt, editor of Hustler magazine, tried to join the wave, announcing that they, too, had been born again, although Flynt now claims to be an atheist. Suddenly, the term “born again”, known only to a very small segment of the Christian church, became part of the bomb and began to receive national attention. It has been borrowed from the secular world and applied to things outside of the Christian faith. For example, if a baseball player had a good year after a very bad year, he was said to be a “born again” player. However, at some point in all the hype, the true meaning of the phrase “born again” became obscure. As a result, there is much confusion, even in the church, as to the exact nature of the new birth. The purpose of this book is to examine what it means, biblically and theologically, to be born again. First of all, I must point out that the expression “born again Christian”, in a strict and technical sense, is redundant; because according to the New Testament, for someone to become a Christian, they must first be born again (John 3: 3-5). Therefore, if someone is born again, he is a Christian. So, call someone? Born again Christian? It’s like saying you’re a Christian twice. The New Testament does not recognize any other type of Christian. Also, is the term of being born again a sin? popular name of the regenerated theological word. I know of no church in the history of Christianity that has not affirmed a doctrine of regeneration or new birth. In other words, every body of Christ in Western history has had to develop some kind of concept of what it means to be spiritually reborn, because that concept was not born with theologians, biblical commentators, or preachers. The very idea of spiritual rebirth has its origin in the teaching of Jesus. Since Christians identify themselves as followers of Christ, they are naturally interested in understanding what Jesus said about this idea.
