[DOCTRINES OF CLEMENCY] Obstacles to coming unto Christ

? Can someone come and see me? (John 6:44).

The natural man is incapable of “coming unto Christ”. Let us quote John 6:44, “No one can come unto me if the Father who sent me does not bring him. “The reason that “this discourse is hard,” even for thousands of people who call themselves Christians, is that I absolutely don’t understand the terrible damage that the fall has caused; and worse, they themselves do not realize the “wound” that exists in their own hearts (1 Kings 8:38). Certainly, if the Spirit had already awakened them from the dream of spiritual death, and given them some of the dreadful state in which they are by nature, and made them feel that their carnal spirit? Are they enmity against God? (Romans 8:7), then they would no longer disagree with this solemn word of Christ, but he who is spiritually dead cannot see or feel spiritually.

  • Where is the total incapacity of the natural man? The necessary faculties are not lacking.
  • This must be sufficiently emphasized.
  • Otherwise fallen man would cease to be a responsible creature; Although the effects of the fall were terrible.
  • They did not deprive man of any of the powers that God originally had.
  • It is true that sin has deprived man of the ability to use these faculties correctly.
  • That is.
  • To use them for the glory of the Creator; however.
  • Fallen man still has the same nature.
  • Body.
  • Soul.
  • And spirit as before the Fall.
  • No part of the human being has been annihilated.
  • Although each has been polluted and corrupted by sin.
  • In fact.
  • Man died spiritually.
  • But isn’t death the extinction of being (annihilation)? Spiritual death is alienation.
  • Of God (Ephesians 4:18).
  • He who is spiritually dead is very alive and active in the service of Satan.

Fallen (unregenerate) man’s inability to come to Christ does not lie in any physical or mental defect; He has the same foot to take you to a place where the gospel is preached as well as to walk to a bar. He has the same eyes that can be used to read both the scriptures and the newspapers. He has the same lips and the same voice to cry out to God that he now uses in ridiculous chants and songs; similarly, he has the same powers of mind to reflect on the things of God and of eternity, which he uses so diligently in his affairs. This is why man is “inexcusable. ” It is the misuse of the powers given to him by the Creator that increases his guilt. May each servant of God see that these things constantly weigh on his irreversible listeners.

1) Man’s incapacity is in his corrupt nature

We have to go much further if we want to find the source of man’s incapacity. Due to the fall of Adam and our own sin, our nature has become so corrupt and depraved that it is impossible for a man to “come to Christ”, love and serve him, cherish him more than anything else in this world and submit to him, until the Spirit of God regenerates him and implants a new nature in him. Bitter spring cannot stimulate fresh water, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Let me try to explain this in more detail through an illustration. It is in the nature of a vulture to feed on carrion; however, it has the same organs and limbs that would allow it to eat grain, like chickens, but it has neither the disposition nor the appetite for that food. It is in the nature of the sow to roll in the mud; and although she has sheep’s feet to carry her to the meadow, she still does not like green pastures. It is the same with unregenerate man. He has the same physical and mental faculties that regenerated man must use in the service and things of God, but he does not love them.

? Adam? He generated a child in your image, according to your image?(Genesis 5: 3). What a terrible contrast to what we read before two verses: “Did God create man, as God did?. In the interval between these two verses, man has fallen and a fallen father can carry only one fallen son, transmitting his own depravity. Who on earth can take pure things?(Job 14:4) That is why we found the Psalmist of Israel declaring, “In wickedness I was born, and in sin my mother conceived me?(Psalm 51: 5). However, although David by nature is a great deal of wickedness and sin (as we do), but later grace was done by a man according to God’s heart. How old is this corruption of nature in children?”Even the child is known for his works? (Proverbs 20:11). The corruption of your heart soon manifests itself: pride, will, vanity, lie, aversion to good, are bitter fruits that soon sprout in the new branch, but corrupt.

2) The incapacity of man lies in the complete darkness in which his intellect is found.

This important faculty of the soul was stripped of its original glory and covered in confusion. Both mind and conscience are corrupted: “There is no one to understand” (Rom. 3:11). The Apostle solemnly reminds the Saints: “For were ye ever darkness?(Ephesians 5:8), not only were they “in darkness,” but they themselves were “darkness. “Sin has closed the windows of the soul and darkness is everywhere: it is the region of darkness and the shadow of death, where light is like darkness. There reigns the prince of darkness, where nothing is practiced except the works of darkness. We were born spiritually blind and cannot recover this vision without a miracle of grace. Is that your case, if you’re not born again? (Thomas Boston, 1680). ?Are they wise children for evil and do not know how to do good?(Jr 4:22).

“The inclination of the flesh is enmity against God, for it is not subject to the law of God, and it cannot even be” (Romans 8:7). In un regenerated man there is opposition and aversion to spiritual things; God has revealed His will to sinners about the way of salvation, but they will not walk this path; they know that only Christ can save them, but they refuse to do so. They separate themselves from the things that stand in their way to Him, they hear that it is sin that kills the soul, but they caress it in the chest; they do not listen to God’s threats; men believe that fire will consume them, and they are in great torment to avoid it; however, they show through their actions that they regard eternal flames as mere scarecrows. The divine commandment is “holy, just, and good,” but man hates and observes it only while promoting his respectability among men.

3) Man’s inability lies in the corruption of his feelings

“Man, in his condition, before receiving the grace of God, loves everything and everything that is not spiritual. If you want proof of that, look around you. You don’t need a monument to the depravity of human feelings. Look everywhere. There is no street, no house, and not only that, there is no heart that does not have sad proofs of this terrible truth. Why doesn’t man meet in the house of God on Saturday? Why don’t we find ourselves reading our Bibles more often? What happens to make prayer an almost completely neglected duty? Why is Jesus Christ so unloved? Why are even his avowed followers so cold in their feelings towards him? Where do these things come from? Certainly, dear brothers and sisters, we cannot attribute to you any other source than the corruption and perversion of feelings. We love what we should hate and we hate what we should love. It is nothing but fallen human nature that makes us love this life more than the next. Is it the result of the Fall that man loves sin more than justice, and the ways of the world more than the ways of God? (Sermon by C. H. Spurgeon on John 6:44).

The feelings of the un regenerated man are totally depraved and disorderly. “Is the heart deceptive, more than anything, and hopelessly corrupt?(Jr 17:9). The Lord Jesus solemnly affirmed that the feelings of the fallen (un regenerated) man are the source of every abomination:?greed, malice, deceit, lust, envy, blasphemy, pride, madness? (M. 7: 21. 22). The feelings of the natural man are miserably distorted, he is a spiritual monster. your feet must be safe on earth; his heels are raised against the heavens, where his heart shall be placed (Acts 9:5); his face is back to hell; that’s why God calls you to convert. happy with what should sadden him, and he is sad that he should encourage him; glory in shame and be ashamed of its glory; abhor what you should want, and want what you should abhor (Prov. 2:13-15) (from the quadruple state of Boston).

4) Your incapacity is in the total perversion of your will

“Man can be saved if he wants, ” says the Arminian. We said, “My dear lord, we all believe that; But is that the difficulty? If he wants to. ? We affirm that no man wants to come unto Christ of his own free will; No, it is not us who say it, but Christ himself declares, “But do you not want to come to me to have life?(John 5:40); And while you don’t want to come?it’s recorded in the scriptures, we can’t be made to believe in any doctrine of agency. It’s strange how people, when they talk about free will, talk about things they don’t understand. One said, “Now, I think man can be saved if he wants to. “But that’s not the point. The problem is: is man naturally willing to submit to the terms of Christ’s gospel? We affirm, with biblical authority, that the human will is so desperately surrendered to deception, so depraved and prone to all evil, and so opposed to all that is good, that without the powerful, supernatural and irresistible influence of the Holy Spirit, no man will be forced to seek Christ. (C. H. Spurgeon).

“There is a three-threaded rope against heaven and holiness, which is not easy to break; a blind man, a perverted will and a sense of disorder. The spirit, inflated with vanity, says that man should not humble himself; will, the enemy of God’s will, says: he does not want; the corrupt emotions that rise up against the Lord, in defense of the corrupt will say: he will not go; thus, the poor creature remains adamant against God, until the day of his power, when he becomes a new creature?(Thomas Boston).

Some readers tend to say, “Teachings like these discourage sinners and lead them to despair. “Our answer is: First, they conform to the Word of God!Second, we hope that it will be a pleasure to use these truths to cause Third, this teaching manifests the absolute need for the work of the Holy Spirit in these depraved and spiritually powerless creatures, if they ever come to Christ in salvation. understood, your help will never be sought.
