I do not expect non-Christians to understand why Christians view unborn babies as inherently precious creations of the living God; however, I would like abortion advocates to explain why they believe that child abortion is an appropriate response to a public health crisis.
Abortion advocates are taking advantage of the Zika virus epidemic to encourage the liberalisation of abortion laws in Brazil, which is shamefully harmful to unborn children with disabilities and does not address real public health issues.
- According to the Committee on Ethics and Religious Freedom (ERLC).
- The Zika virus infected nearly 1.
- 5 million Brazilians last year.
- At the same time.
- A worrying number of local children are born with microcephaly or an abnormally small head.
- Which can lead to developmental problems.
- Among others.
- On 1 February.
- Dr Margaret Chan.
- Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO).
- Said:.
“The recent series of cases of microcephaly and other neurological disorders reported in Brazil, after a similar series in French Polynesia in 2014, constitutes a public health emergency of international concern. “
Abortion advocates are already using the Zika epidemic to advocate for more abortions in Brazil and other countries in South and Central America. A February 3 New York Times article reported that
“The growing number of medical reports of babies born with abnormally small heads during Brazil’s Zika epidemic is fueling intense debate about the country’s abortion laws, which consider the procedure illegal in most circumstances. “
The essence of this intense debate is that for children with disabilities with microcephaly it is better to abort than to be born.
Everyone, including those in favor of unrestricted abortion at any stage of pregnancy, agrees that the decision to have an abortion is serious and most people believe it should be an informed decision, so we can assume that more information about microcephaly would be offered, including how it affects people with microcephaly and their families. What is notable about the New York Times article (by its absence) is that there are no interviews with people with microcephaly or their families, and no case studies are presented The author does not know how people with disabilities respond to efforts to destroy unborn children similar to them.
It is simply assumed that a diagnosis of microcephaly is reason enough to destroy the child in utero.
Living with a young man who does not have microcephaly but has severe developmental problems, I can confirm that it is expensive, and several days are difficult (but we also laugh a lot in our family!). However, it is even harder to live in a world where many people believe and act with the conviction that people like my child should not have been born.
Living in such a world can be scary. But I have a bigger hope: God. And it is God who created my son. As Pastor John Piper noted in a sermon on John 1:
“Wherever you go on this planet and see a living person, you see an image of absolute reality, the ultimate reality, the original reality: the Word, who was with God and was God, and was Life. You’ve never met an ordinary human being. That doesn’t exist. They’re all amazing?
We are all bearers of the image of God. Please note that Pastor John does not change his statement with “unless they have a disability. “It would have been blasphemous if I’d said that. God kindly and specifically informs us in His Word that disability is also under His sovereign authority (Ex 4:11; Jn 9. 1-3).
Once again, I do not expect non-Christians to understand our hope; However, I want to encourage Christians to attach the following to the word of God in faith and act accordingly:
That is why we are not discouraged; on the contrary, even if our outside man is corrupted, our inner man is renewed day by day, because our light and momentary tribulation gives us an eternal weight of glory, especially of comparison, without paying attention to what is seen, but to what is not seen; Because those who see each other are temporary and those who do not see the other are eternal?(2 Cor 4: 16-18)
As Christians, we do not approach suffering by destroying the suffering person. We attack viruses to prevent epidemics, eliminate mosquitoes, develop vaccines, send health professionals and leave us; but we do not kill small human beings, we hope that their promises of sustenment (Phil 4:19) will be true and that their predetermined plans (Acts 4:28) will be perfect. We can proactively and lovingly respond to families suffering from microcephaly, also for all other disabilities, because our hope is in God and not in ourselves.
If you confess Christ as Savior and are usually pro-life (against abortion), but you feel that abortion in these circumstances is reasonable, you create a lie. I ask you to read all the scriptures and see how God presents the goals of suffering and all kinds of difficulties (or read, see, and listen to all resources about “suffering” in desiringGod. org).
The relationship between Zika virus and the cause of microcephaly has not yet been fully understood, but it is clear that something is happening in Brazil. Let us pray that God will provide answers and solutions and show how the church can get involved. affected children are handed over by their parents to the Brazilian government for adoption; Maybe one of these kids should be part of your family!
And should we attack the satanic argument that it could be?For the child with microcephaly and for his family if he is aborted. We must sympathize with those who think so, because they are unable to see God’s extraordinary power and we are on our way to an eternal reality that is worse than any of us can imagine, instead, we must pray and evangelize, and engage with those who support abortion, for their good and joy, and for the lives of these vulnerable little ones. and their families.
