Ten reasons to love the truth
The danger of vulgar relativism
- With every error of injustice to those who perish.
- Because they have not accepted the love of truth to save themselves 2 Thessalonians 2.
- 10.
On May 5, 1994, Michael Novak received the 24th Templeton Prize for the Advancement of Religion and addressed the Westminster Abbey Assembly with a message entitled “Awakening from Nihilism?” (Printed in First Things magazine, 45, August / September 1994). It was a severe attack on the terrible effects of relativism in the 20th century. Of all the lessons that can be learned from the last hundred years, the main one is: “The truth is important. ” Here is his assessment of the fundamental problem of our time:
One of the principles that contemporary intellectuals spread with more intense passion is vulgar relativism, “pleasant-faced nihilism”. For them, it is certain that there is no truth, but only one opinion: my opinion, your opinion. Do they abandon the protection of the intellect? Those who surrender to the domain of the intellect facilitate the path of fascism. Totalitarianism? is the desire for power that is not hindered by any consideration of the truth. To subject men to the affirmations of truth is to give the Earth to criminals?Vulgar relativism is an invisible, odorless and deadly gas that now pollutes all free societies on Earth. Is it a gas that attacks the central nervous system of moral exertion?”There is no truth,” they even teach children. “The truth is a wife. Believe what you think is right. There are as many truths as there are people in this world. Follow your feelings. Do you live in harmony with yourself? Those who speak so are preparing the channels for the 21st century. They do the work of tyrants (p. 20-21).
When we approach the Bible with these words that ring in our ears, it is neither surprising nor oppressive, but it is exciting and solemn to discover that the truth is central. Why? For the simple reason that God is central and is the foundation of all truth, that is what the Bible says.
1. Biblical truth saves
Take care of yourself and the doctrine. Continue with these tasks; because in doing so, will you save yourself and your listeners?(1 Timothy 4:16; see also Acts 20: 26-27, 2 Thessaloniki 2. 10).
2. Biblical truth frees you from Satan.
Will you know the truth, and the truth will set you free?(John 8. 32; see also 2 Timothy 2. 24-26).
3. La truth conveys grace and peace
Are you so numerous in your grace and peace, in the full knowledge of God and Jesus, our Lord?(2 Peter 1. 2).
4. Biblical truth sanctifies.
? Sanctifie them in truth; Is your word the truth?(John 17. 17; see also 2 Peter 1. 3, 5, 12; 2 Timothy 3: 16-17).
5. Biblical truth serves love
“And I also say this prayer: may your love increase ever more in full knowledge and perception?(Philippians 1. 9).
6. Biblical truth protects from error.
Until we all at9est the unity of faith and the full knowledge of the Son of God, the perfection of humanity, according to the stature of Christ’s fulness, so that we may no longer be like children, agitated from side to side and carried away with every wind of doctrine, with artifice of men, with the cunning with which they induce error?(Ephesians 4: 13-14).
7. Biblical truth is the hope of heaven
“For now we see as in a mirror, darkly; then we’ll see face to face. Now I know in part; So I’ll know how well-known I am?(1 Corinthians 13:12).
8. Some will fight biblical truth.
“For there shall be a time when they shall not endure sound doctrine; on the contrary, will they surround themselves with teachers according to their own lusts, such as itching in their ears?(2 Timothy 4. 3).
9. La truth, duly treated, is approved by God
Are you trying to present yourself to God approved, like a worker who doesn’t have to be ashamed, who properly handles the word of truth?(2 Timothy 2. 15).
10. Biblical Truth: Keep growing in it!
“Have I grown in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ?(2 Peter 3:18).
I pray that the effects of these biblical words will be a strong belief that there is something called truth in the midst of this world of “vulgar relativism,” and that the Bible is the decisive Word of Truth. If this belief takes root and spreads, we should not be among those who “prepare the chains of the 21st century. “We should, in fact, be the true liberators: “Will you know the truth and the truth will set you free?”(John 8:32).
