Blessed are the sweets, for they shall inherit the earth; (Matthew 5:5)
Sweetness is completely contrary to our nature, because it goes against our carnal reactions when we are wounded. Our will is to react, but let us see the attitude of Jesus. We know that He claimed to be kind:
- Come unto me all ye that are weary and oppressed.
- And I will relieve you; carry with my yoke and learn from me.
- That I am meek and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.
- For my yoke is soft and my burden light (Matthew 11:28-30).
And it was his attitude to the wounds he bore
Whoever, insulted, does not insult, and when he suffers, he does not threaten, but surrenders to the one who judges correctly; bearing our sins in His body on the tree, so that, dead to sins, we can live for righteousness; and by your wounds you have been healed. (1 Stone 2: 23-24)
So do we have to have the same feeling that was also in Christ Jesus? (Philippians 2: 5). Should we renounce our vengeance, be comforted by coming to Christ, and know that we must forgive him, if we have something against someone, so that Heavenly Father will also forgive our sins for them? (Mark 11:25), and that in the end the meek will inherit the earth.
