[DEVOTIONAL] John Piper? The Word Cascade effect

I thought about the importance of reading and writing, there are many reasons why I write. Reading is one of the reasons that drives me the most to write, I tell you that my main spiritual support comes from the Holy Ghost through reading, so reading is more important to me than food, if I go blind, I would pay someone to read it to me and try to learn Braille. I’d buy books on tapes, I’d rather live without food than without books, so writing seems to be something that brings me to life, as I feed my life with a lot of what I read.

Combine this with Paul’s words in Ephesians 3:3-4: “According to a revelation I have been made known the mystery, as I briefly wrote, briefly; So, when you read, can you understand my discernment of the mystery of Christ? The early church was established by the writings of the apostles, as well as by their preaching. God resolved to send his living word to the world for thirty years and his written word for two thousand years. Think of the intent behind this divine resolve. People, in every generation, would depend on those who read. Should some, if not all, learn to read and read well?be faithful to God.

  • This has been the case for thousands of years.
  • Generation after generation.
  • It reads the ideas of its authors.
  • So new claims of old truths are continually needed.
  • Without them people will read the error.
  • Daniel Webster said:.

If religious books do not circulate widely among the masses of this country, I do not know what we will become as a nation; if the truth is not spread, the error will be; If God and His Word are not known and received, the Devil and His works will gain dominance; if the gospel books do not reach all the villages, the pages of corrupt and lyceous literature will.

Millions of people will be involved in reading; if they don’t read contemporary Christian books, they’ll read contemporary secular books. It is wonderful to observe people at airports, only at airports, at any given time, hundreds of people read, one of the things believers must commit ourselves to, besides reading, is the attitude of giving spiritual books to those who can. read them but don’t buy them.

The domino effect is incalculable. Consider this illustration

A book written by Richard Sibbes, one of the finest Puritan writers, was read by Richard Baxter, who was greatly blessed by the book. Baxter later wrote A Call to the Inconverted, which profoundly influenced Philip Doddridge, who in turn wrote The Emergence and Progress of Christianity in the Soul. This book led William Wilberforce, a politician and enemy of slavery, to serious reflections on eternity. Wilberforce wrote his Practical Guide to Christianity, which set the soul of Leigh Richmond on fire. In turn, he wrote The Milkman’s Daughter, who brought thousands of people to the Lord, helping, among others, Thomas Chalmers, the great preacher.

It seems to me that in a literary culture like ours, in which many people can read and books are available, the biblical mandate is that you continue to read what will open the scriptures to you more and more and keep you praying. Saturated with the Bible. There are important old books to read, but each new generation needs its own writers to make the message new. Read and pray. Then obey.
