The joy of knowing that God is God
Human effort can never impress an almighty God, and the greatness of men can never impress a God of infinite greatness. This is bad news for those who compete with God, but good news for those who want to live by faith.
- Psalm 147 is an exciting declaration of hope for a people who enjoy the joy and certainty that God is God.
- The Psalmist said.
- “Count the number of stars.
- Calling them all by name” (v.
- 4).
- Now it’s more than we can learn!” Such knowledge is too wonderful for me: it is too high.
- Can’t I reach it?(Salt 139.
- 6).
The Earth, where we live, is a small planet that revolves around a star called the Sun, which has a volume one million three hundred times that of the Earth. There are stars millions of times brighter than the sun and around a hundred billion. stars in our galaxy, the Milky Way, which is 100,000 light years across (one light year equals 299,792,458 km / s). The Sun travels at 249 km / s, and as a result, it takes two hundred million years for the sun to fill a single orbit around the Milky Way. There are millions of other galaxies besides our own.
Now listen again: Psalm 147 declares that God counts the number of all stars, not only that, he also declares that He calls them by the name He gave them, as you do with pets, you look at them, you look at their characteristics, and call them by a name that matches the differences. When we sang Katherine Davis’ song “Let All Things Now Living”, I smile with great satisfaction when I find the words:
He establishes his law: The stars, in their course, The Sun, in their orbit, shine obediently.
Yes, I think, “Docilely, is that the right word! The sun has a name in the spirit of God. He calls the sun by name, tells him what to do, and obeys. And the same goes for billions of stars. all electrons, in all molecules of elements of stars and planets, including the elements found in the gills of a shark that lives beneath the rocks, off the coast of Rhode Island).
Now, what would impress a God like that? Psalm 147: 10-11 clearly shows us:
It ignores the horse’s strength and is also not pleased with the warrior’s muscles; the Lord rejoices in those who fear Him and those who wait in His mercy.
Imagine an Olympic weightlifter who prides himself on lifting two hundred and twenty-five kilos, or imagines a scientist proud to discover how one molecule is affected by another, we don’t have to be geniuses to know that God is not impressed with these things. .
The good news for those who appreciate the joy of knowing that God is God is that He is pleased with these people, God rejoices with those who wait in his immeasurable power, it is no literary coincidence that the verses refer to another aspect of God’s greatness (in verses 4 and 5) show him caring for the weak (verses 3 and 6) :
3 Heal those who have a broken heart, and think of their wounds. 4 Counts the number of stars, calling them all by name. 5 Our Lord is great and very powerful; His understanding cannot be measured. 6 The Lord supports the humble and finds the wicked on earth.
O one who keeps our attention to the truth that God is God and works omnipotently for those who wait in him (Is 64:4), as well as in his mercy (Ps 147:11) and love Him (Rom 8:28). He loves to be God to the weak and the helpless, who seek Him for what they need.
