Piper Family Food Prayers
I wrote the following sentences so that we could use them at mealtimes in our families. There is a long prayer and a short prayer for each daily meal. The three long sentences have been of great value to our families for many years, and for all our children know these prayers from the bottom of their hearts, so that they can recite them together without the written words.
- For example.
- In August 2001.
- When Benjamin.
- Our second eldest son.
- Married in Brazil.
- I was asked to pray at a large family reunion in Fortaleza.
- Instead of praying in my own words.
- He said.
- “I think I would ask my children (Karsten.
- Benjamin.
- Abraham.
- Barnabas.
- Talitha) to say the prayer we used during my growing years with me and my wife.
- “Then we recite this prayer.
- By heart.
- People were so moved by the fact that our family was able to recite prayer in unite.
- Without repetition.
- That they asked me to recite this prayer slowly.
- So that they could translate the phrase by sentence into Portuguese.
- It was a wonderful testimony of Christ for all the people who were there.
Therefore, I present you here, not in the hope that they will be used, but in the hope that they will provoke serious reflections on what we really want God to do at mealtimes, and make us think about what we are truly grateful for.
