Meditation on thirst on Monday morning.
When I knelt on Monday morning, during my devotion, I said, “Lord, have mercy on me, sinner! Please come and restore my soul. Then I asked calmly, “Lord Jesus, what did you mean when You said, “This one? That by drinking the water I give you, you’ll never be thirsty?I’m thirsty this morning. I heard my colleague David Livingston say last night that I was thirsty. Almost every believer who comes to my office” You’re thirsty. What was your intention in saying that those who drank from your water would no longer be thirsty? Is this promise in vain?
- The Lord answered.
- He showed me the rest of the verse and shed a light he had never seen before.
- John 4:14 begins like this :?This? What about drinking from the water that I give you will never thirst? That’s what led me to shout.
- “What did you mean?My church is thirsty!Oh Jesus!” what did you mean?.
Jesus responded in the only way I know He does; opened my eyes to see the meaning of what I was saying in the Bible. I had already memorized this verse on Sunday morning, for my own soul, and for possible use in pastoral prayer. Then, as I prayed, the elements of divine communication were in place (Oh, what a perception we lose when we no longer memorize the scriptures!).
Like I said, the second part of the verse spoke for itself. Jesus said, “On the contrary, the water I give you will be a source in it to flow into eternal life. “With these words, the answer came. It was not an audible voice, but the voice of Jesus, in the Word enlightened and applied by the Holy Spirit.
The answer was this: when you drink my water, your thirst doesn’t go out forever. If that happened, would you feel the need for my water later? That’s not my goal. I don’t want saints who govern themselves. When you drink my water, it becomes a source in you. A fountain satisfies thirst, not by removing the need for water, but by being there, to give them water when they are thirsty. On other occasions! Like this morning, so drink, John.
Now, as I write, I see this precious truth in Psalm 23: “The Lord is my shepherd; Am I going to miss something?Despite this, we shout, “O Lord, today I have needs!I know hundreds of people who have needed and trust you as their pastor. What do you mean, we’re not going to run out of anything?
Now we learn a lesson. First, we cried. Then he says, “It makes me rest in green pastures. Take me to the waters of rest; Is my soul getting cold? This means that needs arise in my soul, and then the Lord Jesus satisfies them. They go up; Is life a rhythm of need and supply? And sometimes a rhythm of danger and liberation. “Even if I walk in the valley of shadow of death. “The valley will turn (again) into green pastures, and the calm waters will run (again!). So far, the fountain springs from within and will do it forever. Why the source in us is not ourselves; And God. Did he say that of the Spirit that those who believe in him would receive from within?(Jn 7. 38-39).
Thirst is satisfied by the Spirit of Christ, who reveals himself and his promises, to the satisfaction of our souls; but thirst is not obstructed, undoing the urge to turn to Him over and over again, in search of all that God has promised. for us in Jesus.
May the thirsty come and keep coming, until our communion is so intimate, that there is no distance between us and the Lord.
