[DEVOTIONAL] John Piper? Donation and (in that order)

Question: If God is the one who gives us different measures of faith, should we seek greater faith?

Answer: yes! By prayer, the Word, communion and obedience.

  • Faith is a gift from God.
  • Romans 12.
  • 3 says: “Think sparingly.
  • According to the measure of faith that God has shared with each one.
  • “God gives each believer a measure of faith.
  • Ephesians 2.
  • 8 declares: “By grace ye are saved.
  • By faith; And it is not yours; Is it a gift from God?The word refers to the whole act of God.
  • Including the realization of the work of salvation on the cross.
  • And its application through faith.
  • Philippians 1:29 said.
  • “Why have you been given the grace to suffer for Christ and not just to believe in him?”Believing and suffering are gifts of Dieu.
  • Faith) is called the gift of God (2 Tim 2:25; Acts 11.
  • 18).
  • Christ’s revelation to the heart makes faith possible and is also a gift (Mt 16:17; 2 Co 4:4.
  • 6).

This is not to say that faith is static or that we should not seek it more and more. In 2 Thessalonians 1. 3, Paul says, “Your faith grows enormously and your mutual love grows. “In 2 Corinthians 10. 15, Paul says that he expected the faith of these believers to grow.

Therefore, it is clear that faith must grow and not remain static. Just because God gave you a level of faith yesterday does not mean that His will for today is that you have the same measure of faith. Your purpose for you today may include much greater faith. Is his commandment that we trust him at all times?(Psalm 62,8) and do we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ?(2 Peter 3:18).

God commands what He wants and gives as he commands; but we must always look for what God commands us to do. He said, “Have I developed your salvation?according to His goodwill? (Philippians 2: 12-13). God did not say, “Since I do, you must not act. “He said, “Because I do, right?” God’s gift does not replace our effort, but it strengthens and sustains it.

We affirm, with Paul: “His grace [of God], which was bestowed upon me, has not become in vain; Did I work?(1 Co 15. 10). The gift of grace has produced hard work. No other Paulo said: “I worked much more than everyone else; But not me, but God’s grace with me?Paul’s work was a gift of grace. Yes, it’s like our effort, it’s an effort! But that’s not all, effort is not the root. If you are virtuous, it is God who makes you want and do, according to His goodwill. Does He fulfill all goals of kindness and work of faith with power?(2 Ts 1:11). Does God endow you with all the good to do his will, working in you what He likes?(He has 13,21).

Let us therefore seek as much faith as possible, by all the means that God’s grace has given us. Let us be like Paul and fight, as far as possible, according to his effectiveness which works for us effectively (Cl 1:29). And when we work hard, let us think of ourselves no more than necessary, but, like Paul, say, “Do I not dare speak of anything other than those whom Christ has done through me?By the power of the Holy Ghost? ( Rom. 15: 18-19) . Is there a place for determination in Christian life (?Have I worked harder?), but is it preceded and reinforced by the gift (?God’s grace with me?). Therefore, every determination is invigorated by faith in future grace.
