December 7th? Daily devotion CHARLES SPURGEON

Verse of the day: God chose the humble things of the world (1 Corinthians 1:28).

Walk the streets of the city at night, if you dare, and you will see sinners. See when the darkness of night comes, the wind blows and the robber hides in the entrance and you will see the sinners. Go to jail and walk through the corridors; you will observe men with menacing faces, men you would not like to meet at night, and you will find sinners. Go to reformatories and look at those who have exposed the rampant depravity of the young, and you will see the sinners there. Go to some remote places where you will find primitive men, and there will be a sinner there. Go where you want; you will not have to explore the world to find sinners because they are so common. You can find them on every street in every city, town or neighborhood. It was for them that Jesus died. If you found the cruelest specimen of the human race, you would still have hope about it, because Jesus came to seek and save the lost. (Luke 19:10). Elective love chose some of the worst to be the best. The pebbles of the Graça stream become jewels in the royal crown. The Lord Jesus turns the unworthy milkman into pure gold. Redeeming love set apart many of the worst men to be the reward of our Lord’s passion. Effective grace calls many of the worst men to sit at the table of mercy. Therefore, no one should feel desperate. Reader, there is a love that flows from the teary eyes of Jesus and a love that flows from these bloody wounds. For this faithful love, this strong love, this pure and tolerant love; For this love of the Savior, we urge you not to turn back, as if there was nothing for you. Believe in Jesus and you will be saved. Trust your soul to Him, and He will bring you into God’s presence in eternal glory.
