December 6th? Daily devotion CHARLES SPURGEON

Verse of the day: This is the heavenly one, so is the heavenly one (1 Corinthians 15. 48).

The head and the members of the Body of Christ are of the same nature. They are not like that monstrous image that Nebuchadnezzar saw in his dream. The head was of fine gold, but the stomach and hips were bronze; legs, of iron; and the feet were part iron and part clay. The mystical body of Christ is not an absurd mixture of opposites. The members were mortal, so Christ died. The glorified Head is immortal; therefore the body is also immortal. The biblical account remains: “Because I live, will you also live? (John 14:19). Like our beautiful head, so is the body and each particular member of the body: an elected leader and elected members; an accepted leader and members; a live head and live limbs. If the head is of fine gold, all the parts of the body are also of fine gold. Thus, there is a double union of nature as the basis of the most recent communion. Stop now, dear reader, and see if you can contemplate, without admiration or ecstasy, the infinite condescension of the Son of God in exalting our wickedness to the blessed union with his glory. You are so inferior that when you remember your mortality, you will say to corruption: “Are you my father? and to the verses: “You are my sister. ” But in Christ you are so honored that you can say to the Most High: “Abba, Father? and to the incarnate God: “You are my brother and my husband. ” Certainly, if relationships with ancient and noble families cause men to have high self-esteem, we have every reason to brag above all else. Let the poorest and most despised believer hold on to this privilege. Don’t let silly laziness make you neglect the recognition of your race. Let no foolish connection introduce vanities to occupy your mind and drive out that glorious and heavenly honor of union with Christ.
