December 29th? Daily devotion CHARLES SPURGEON

Daily Devotion: So far, the Lord has helped us (1 Samuel 7. 12).

The expression, until now? it looks like a hand pointing to the past. Twenty years or seventy years? Has the Lord helped us so far? In poverty or wealth, in sickness or in health, at home or abroad, on land or at sea, in honor or dishonor, in perplexity, in joy, in difficulties or in triumphs, in prayer, in temptation, the Lord has helped us. ! We like to contemplate a vast avenue of trees; It is pleasant to admire from beginning to end this great landscape, a kind of green temple, with its pillars of branches and arches of leaves. Likewise, gaze down the corridors of the years of your life, see the green branches of mercy in the canopy of your life and the strong stalks of goodness and faithfulness that have produced your joys. Are there no birds singing in the branches? Of course, there must be, and everyone sings of the mercy received “so far. ” The expression, until now? it also indicates the future. When a man reaches a certain point and writes “so far” he indicates that he has not yet reached the end. There is still a long way to go. There are more trials, more joys, more temptations, more triumphs, more prayers, more answers, more work, more empowerment, as well as more struggles, more victories. Then come sickness, old age, and death. Is the trip over? Not! There is still more: to resurrect in the image of Jesus, thrones, harps, songs, psalms, white robes, the face of Jesus, the communion of saints, the glory of God, the fullness of eternity and infinite blessedness. Believer, be in a good mood! With grateful confidence, pick up your Ebénezer, because whoever has helped you thus far will continue to help you throughout the journey. When you read it in the light of heaven, what glorious and wonderful prospect do you have? It will be revealed to your grateful eyes!
