December 28th? Daily devotion CHARLES SPURGEON

Verse of the day: This life which I now have in the flesh, I live it by faith in the Son of God (Galatians 2. 20).

When, in his mercy, the Lord passed by and saw us dead, he said: “Live”, because life is one of the absolutely essential things in the spiritual. Until life is given, we cannot participate in the things of the Kingdom. The life that grace gives the believer at the moment of his regeneration is none other than the life of Christ. Like the sap of the stem, faith exists and flows through us, the branches, and establishes a living connection between our soul and Jesus. Faith is the grace that perceives this union; and it comes from this union as its first fruits. It is the neck that connects the body of the church to its glorious head. Faith clings to the Lord Jesus with firmness and determination. Faith knows the excellence and dignity of Jesus. Therefore, no temptation can make you trust another person. The Lord Jesus is so enchanted by this heavenly grace that he never fails to sustain and strengthen faith through loving participation and the sufficient protection of his everlasting arms. It is, therefore, a lively, sensitive and delicious union, producing torrents of love, trust, sympathy, complacency and joy, which the bride and groom love to drink. When the soul can perceive the union between it and Christ, the same impulse can be felt as if it were hitting each other, and the same blood, flowing through the veins of both. Thus the heart is close to heaven, while it is on earth for a time, and is ready for the enjoyment of the most sublime and spiritual kind of communion.
