December 24th? Daily devotion CHARLES SPURGEON

Verse of the day: He became poor for you. (2 Corinthians 8: 9)

The Lord Jesus was eternally rich, glorious and exalted, but being rich he became poor because of you. The rich believer cannot be faithful to fellowship with his poor brother unless he offers his resources to meet his needs. It is also the head and members of the body of Christ. It would be impossible for our divine Lord to have communion with us if he had not communicated his abundant riches and if he had become impoverished to enrich us. If the Lord Jesus had remained on his throne of glory and if we had remained in the ruins of the Fall, without receiving the salvation consummated by him, communion would have been impossible for both sides. Because of the Fall, our position outside the covenant of grace made it as impossible for us ruined creatures to commune with God as it is for Belial to live in harmony with Christ. In order for communion to take place, the rich Savior had to give his goods to his poor parents; that the righteous Savior would bestow upon His own sinful brethren His own perfection, and that we, the unfortunate guilty, would receive His fullness? thank you for thank you (John 1,16). In this way, giving and receiving, one would descend from the heights and the other would rise from the depths, thus being able to meet in true and sincere communion. Poverty must be enriched by the One in whom there are infinite treasures, before one can reach the point of communion; guilt must give way to imputed justice before the soul can walk in communion in purity. Jesus must dress his people in his own clothes, otherwise he cannot admit them into his palace of glory. He must wash them with his own blood, because if he does not, they will be very contaminated for the encounter of communion with Jesus. Believer is love! Because of your love, the Lord Jesus became impoverished to raise you up to communion with him.
