December 12th? Replace shadows

Replace shadows

Verse of the Day: Now, the essential thing we have said is that we have such a high priest, that he sat to the right of The Throne of Majesty in Heaven, as minister of the sanctuary and the true tabernacle that the Lord erected, not a man (Hebrews 8. 1-2)

  • The essence of the book of Hebrews is that Jesus Christ.
  • The Son of God.
  • Not only came to integrate into the earthly system of priestly ministry.
  • As the best and last human priest.
  • But came to fulfill and end this system.
  • And directed all our attention to yourself by serving us in heaven.

The tabernacle of the Old Testament, priests, and sacrifices were shadows, now reality has come, and shadows have passed.

Is there an Advent illustration for children here? And for those of us who were once children and who remember what it was like to be. Suppose you and your mom separate at the market and start freaking out and panic and don’t. You don’t know where to go, and you run to the end of a hallway, and long before you start crying, you see a shadow on the floor at the end of the hall that looks like your mother. This shadow really gives you joy and I feel hope, but what is better? The happiness of seeing the shadow, or having your mother in the hall and really being her?

This is how Jesus becomes our High Priest. Christmas is the replacement of shadows by reality.
