Why Jesus Came
Verse of the day: Because children have a common participation of flesh and blood, he also participated in it, so that with his death he would destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil. To free all who, for fear of death, were subjected to slavery for life (Hebrews 2:14-15).
- Hebrews 2: 14-15 deserves more than two minutes in an Advent devotion.
- These verses link the beginning and end of Jesus’ mortal life and clearly explain why Jesus came.
- It would be great to use them with a disbeliever or a family member to guide you step by step in your Christian vision of Christmas.
- Could that explanation be like this?.
Therefore, since the children have a common participation of flesh and blood. “
The term
?? of these [meat and blood] also participated ??
Christ existed before the incarnation. He was a spirit. He was the eternal Word, he was with God, and he was God (John 1. 1; Colossus 2. 9), but he took flesh and blood and wore his divinity of humanity, became completely human, and remained completely God. It’s a great mystery in many ways. But it is the heart of our faith and that is what the Bible teaches.
?? for this, for his death ??.
The reason Jesus became a man was to die. Like God, I couldn’t die for sinners. But as a man I could. His goal was to die. Therefore, it had to be born human. He was born to die. Good Friday is the reason for Christmas. Here’s what to say today about the meaning of Christmas.
“Destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil. “
When he died, Christ disarmed the devil. Covering all our sins. This means that Satan has no legitimate reason to accuse us before God. Who will accuse God’s eldes?(Romans 8. 33). On what does it justify? By the blood of Jesus (Romans 5. 9).
Satan’s supreme weapon against us is our own sin. If the death of Jesus suppresses sin, the devil’s chief weapon is taken away from him. He cannot claim our death penalty, because the judge acquitted us for the death of his Son!
“and deliver all those who, out of fear of death, have been subjected to slavery for life. “
Therefore, we are free from the fear of death, God justified us. Satan cannot annul this decree, and God wants our ultimate security to have an immediate effect on our lives, He wants the happy ending to be free from slavery and fear now.
If we don’t have to fear our last and greatest enemy, death, then we have nothing to fear. We can be free. Free of joy. Free for others.
What a beautiful Christmas gift from God for us and ours for the world!
