Now incense and myrrh
Verse of the day: And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with great and intense joy. Upon entering the house, they saw the child with Mary, his mother. Prostra, they adored him; and by opening their treasures, they gave him their offerings: gold, incense, and myrrh (Matthew 2:10-11).
- God is not served by human hands as if He needed something (Acts 17:25).
- The gifts of magicians are not offered as help or to meet needs.
- It would be a disgrace to a monarch if foreign visitors arrived with packages of real food.
These gifts don’t mean bribery either. Deuteronomy 10:17 says that God does not accept bribes. Well, what do these gifts mean?
Gifts intensify the desire of Christ Himself, as does fasting. When you make a gift like this to Christ, it is a way of saying, “The joy I seek (verse 10) is not the hope of enriching myself with things that come from Me I came not to you for your business, but for you. And this desire, I intensifie and manifest now offering things, in the hope of appreciating you more, not things. When I give you what you don’t need, and what I could enjoy, I say more honestly and honestly, “Are you my treasure, not these things?”
I think it’s the meaning of worshipping God with gifts of gold, incense, and myrrh.
May God remove the truth from this text and awaken in us the desire of Christ Himself. May we say with total joy: “Lord Jesus, you are the Messiah, the king of Israel. All nations will come and prostrate before you. God rules the world to make sure you are worshipped. So whatever opposition I may encounter, I joyfully attribute authority and dignity to you, and I bring my gifts to say that this is not the case, but that only you can satisfy my heart.
