Americans currently spend more than $70 billion a year on lotteries. This is more than the sum of all expenses related to books, video games, movies and tickets to sporting events. Lotteries are permitted by law in 43 states.
Atlantic magazine reported, “This equates to an average of $230 for every man, woman, and child in these states, or $300 per adult. “
- I agree with the report that it is a great disgrace to the nation.
- Every now and then.
- Lotteries.
- Such as Powerball and Mega Million.
- Reward higher-than-usual values.
- Catching the eye of the news.
- Here are seven reasons why I often use to say that you shouldn’t use your money in this type of game.
“But do those who want to enrich themselves fall into temptation, in the trap, and in many mad and pernicious lusts, which plunge men into ruin and doom?Have some of the faith in this greed been diverted and tormented with great pain?(1 Timothy 6: 9-10)
An administrator can’t bet on his master’s money. Everything you have belongs to God, everything, a trustee can’t bet with the trust fund. You don’t have that right. In the parable of talents, it is said that we will be accountable to Jesus for how we manage his money. They set to work (Matthew 25:16-17). Therefore, we must seek our own food (1 Corinthians 4:12; 1 Thessalonians 4:11; Ephesians 4:28).
The odds of winning are one in 176 million. You take real money and buy a chance. This opportunity is so infinitely small that the dollar is practically lost 175,999,999 times. The small amounts that are paid regularly are like a fog that prevents you from seeing what’s going on.
According to the International Business Times, lotteries are just another type of game (without the glamour and brilliance of Las Vegas, of course). Is everything controlled by him? House? And everyone will end up losing ?.
Does the lottery support and encourage another destructive addiction that benefits from the greed and desperate dreams of those trapped in poverty? The consumerist suggested that the poor in the United States, who earn $13,000 a year or less, spend an incredible 9% of their money. lottery ticket revenue? What makes this game harmless?
A survey conducted by Opinion Research Corporation for the U. S. Consumer Federation and financial planning association found that 1/5 (21%) respondents believe that the lottery is a convenient way to accumulate wealth. We teach people to be stupid.
If the $500 (the average amount each U. S. family plays in the lottery per year) were invested annually in an indexed fund for 20 years, each family would have $24,000, it wouldn’t be a mere possibility. This would be guaranteed and taxes on these incomes would not only serve to maintain government services, but would be based on reasonable and sustainable habits of economic life.
“A government that raises funds by encouraging and exploiting the weaknesses of its citizens is beyond the democratic accountability mechanism. State-sponsored play subverts the civic virtues underlying democratic rule. (First things, September 1991, 12)
So if you win, don’t give our department lottery money, Christ doesn’t build his Church on the backs of the poor, pray that Christ’s people will be satisfied to the point of getting rid of the greed that makes us long. for wealth.
