Verse of the day: heterosexual men love you. (Singing from Songs 1. 4)
Believers love Jesus with a deeper affection than they dare to impose on any other being. They’d rather lose their father and mother than part with Christ. They have all the comforts of this world with little firmness; but they lead Jesus locked in their hearts. Believers voluntarily deny themselves out of love for Jesus; then they cannot be forced to deny it. It’s just a superficial love that the fire of persecution can put out. The love of the true believer is a deeper source than that.
- Men have tried to separate the believer from their Lord.
- But their attempts have proved fruitless at all ages.
- Neither the crowns of honor nor the frowns have broken this Gordian knot.
- This love is not a daily attraction that the world is able to dissolve.
- Neither men nor demons have found a key to open this lock.
Satan’s intelligence has never been more ineffective than in his efforts to break this union of two Hearts fused by God. It says, “Heterosexual men love you”; and nothing can override that claim. However, the intensity of the love of believers should not be judged by what it seems, but by what the believer aspires to. Our daily repentance is not loving enough. If only our hearts could be repressed more and more attain the love of Christ. Like Samuel Rutherford, we sighed and exclaimed, “Oh, what if we had enough love to surround the earth and cover heaven?”Yes, heaven’s paradise and ten thousand worlds?so that we can pour everything out on the beautiful Christ? It is a pity that all we can love is like the length of a hand, and that our affection is only a drop in a bucket, compared to what He deserves. O ninth if we could give all the love of our hearts, to a great extent, to Him who is “totally desirable” (Song of Songs 5. 16).
