Verse of the day: God’s mercy. (Psalm 52. 8)
Meditate for a moment on the mercy of God. She is sweet. With a gentle and kind touch, the Lord heals sick hearts and heals their wounds. He is as merciful in matters of mercy as in his practice. It is a great mercy. There is nothing small in God. His mercy matches his character, it is infinite. It is not possible to measure it. It is so great that for great sinners it forgives great sins, after a long period of time, and then bestows great favors and privileges, and raises us to great joys in the great heaven of the great God. This mercy is not deserved, as all true mercy should be; because deserved mercy is just an incorrect designation of the term justice. The sinner had no right to the merciful consideration of the Most High. If the sinner had been condemned because of anger, only sovereign love would have found a reason to deliver him, because there was no reason in the sinner himself. This mercy is very rich. Some things are great but have little effect on their own. God’s mercy is an encouragement to fallen spirits; a gold anointing for bleeding wounds; a heavenly bandage for broken bones; a royal carriage for tired feet; and a loving hug for trembling hearts. God’s mercy is abundant. Millions of people have already received it. Yet instead of being exhausted, he remains as young, as full, and as spontaneous as he has always been. This mercy is infallible, it will never abandon you. If she is your friend, she will be with you in temptation, to prevent you from giving in; He will also be with you in the tests, so that you do not lose heart; God’s mercy will be with you throughout your life, to be the light and life of your face. However, this mercy will be the joy of your soul in the days when you are at the door of death, when all earthly comforts are quickly exhausted.
