At work: Honor the gospel in the workplace?Jamie Dunlop? Young faithful 2016

What does it mean to honor the gospel in action?Do you see work as a necessary evil and occasionally you speak of Christ and suddenly honor the gospel?I don’t think so. On the other hand, is your job the gospel? When you work honestly, do you live the gospel? No, I don’t think that’s the answer either. You may be the best banker, but you’ll never save someone from hell by making financial transactions. But the gospel can.

Honoring the gospel in action has to do with what we saw in the last message: being faithful at work, because fidelity is the art of living in obedience to God for our lives to proclaim its glory and dignity. our work when I work in such a way that we announce when God is beautiful.

  • To understand this.
  • We must understand four principles: work is (1) worship.
  • (2) imitation.
  • (3) love.
  • And (4) faith.

We can’t honor the gospel until we understand who we really work for. No matter who your earthly leader is, you will always work for Jesus. Col 3: 23-24: “Whatever you do, do it wholeheartedly, as the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that you will receive the reward of the Lord’s inheritance. Christ, the Lord, do you serve?

It’s amazing! When you change a diaper, who does it serve?Jesus, when you write to repair a car, who do you serve?Jesus, this means that even if your earthly chief does not value you, your work is valued by Christ.

What is your goal?1Co 10. 31 😕 Therefore, whether you eat, drink, or do something else, do everything for the glory of God. Your salary is important, professional growth is important, but at the end of the day, you work to glorify God. This is Jesus’ task, for his work, to be faithful.

That’s why work is a cult. Worship is an answer, it acts with fear of who God is, it is not just singing. When you have a biblical vision of worship (an answer to who God is that involves your whole life), it makes sense to understand that work is worship.

Your work can show how good God is, because it imitates God. This may seem quite theoretical, but it is actually the way to the most pious and satisfying professional joy. Remember: God created us in His image; and one of the ways we reflect it is by acting as such.

So how do we work imitating God’s character? Here are four ways

1. We reflect God’s character by putting order in chaos. In a way, his work implies the beauty of ugliness, order, chaos.

2. We reflect God’s character in exercising his authority in a positive way. The world is skeptical of authority (including God’s). So when we use the authority with which God has clothed us, we oppose Satan’s lie that all authority is tyrannical. This is also true when you’re under someone’s authority. Choose to live just below those God has placed on you. If you are an employee, respect and honor those above you. Do not impart a spirit of rebellion to others, giving the impression that authority is a pitiful, illegitimate and necessary evil.

3. We reflect God’s character by being creative. When we are creative, we follow In God’s footsteps and discover the wisdom with which He created the world.

Thus, we reflect God’s character in our work when (1) we come out of the order of chaos; (2) we exercise authority in a positive manner; and (3) we are creative.

What does obedience look like? Jesus said that the greatest commandment is to love God. So work is love, because we do it for God, working “with all our hearts. “And the second commandment is to love one’s neighbour as yourself. Therefore, our motivation at work, and our own work is love for God and neighbour.

It’s a service. Love is a way of working serving others, whether you are the director or the janitor, Christ has come as a servant and also calls us to be servants, because it is rare to find people in the labor market who are completely dedicated to the good of others. As Christians, we must not help us to help or serve to achieve what we really want, or compete with others to show ourselves. On the cross, Jesus gave you everything you need.

Disposition, Love is another way of working is because it allows us to support others. The world works because it needs money, but Christ has promised to attend to our needs. This world works because it needs to feel important, but our sense. in life it is exalting Christ. This world works because it wants to make a difference, but we know that this world passes and that our treasure is in paradise.

? However, brethren, we urge you to progress more and more and strive to live in peace, to take care of what is yours, and to work with your own hands, as we have commanded you; so you can behave with dignity with the outsiders and you don’t need anything.

? Ephesians 4:28: He who has flown no longer flies; Instead, work, do with your own hands what’s good, so you have to help those in need.

Evangelism, of course, any supply of rusty material and passes. The best way to use our work is to love our colleagues by sharing the gospel. We are ambassadors of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20) and this involves both how we live and what we communicate Develop relationships with your colleagues. Treat them as people and not as projects of evangelization; Love them as Christ loved you.

Work is love when we see it as a service to others, as a way to help others, and as an opportunity to share the gospel.

Working in this way can be very difficult in some circumstances. Sometimes the path of fidelity will be difficult to discern. Sometimes we’ll need courage to stay on the road. But this is what the Bible calls faith; and faith is fundamental to fidelity (Heb 11:1; Rom 14. 23) . It is above all your faith in the midst of the professional environment that preaches the gospel. If it wasn’t difficult, we wouldn’t need faith, let alone talk about the value of our Savior.

Let us work in a way that only makes sense in the face of the reality that Jesus really comes.
