The wonderful exchange
Verse of the day: For I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is god’s power for the salvation of all who believe, first of the Jew and also of the Greek; for the righteousness of God is revealed in the gospel (Romans 1:16-17)
We need justice to be accepted by God, but we don’t have it. What we have is sin.
Therefore, God has what we need and do not deserve: justice; and we have what God hates and rejects: sin. What is God’s response to this situation?
His answer is Jesus Christ, the Son of God who died in our place; God places our sins upon Christ and punishes them in Him; and in Christ’s obedient death, God fulfills and justifies his righteousness and will imput it to us (credit). Our sin about Christ; their justice over us.
We can hardly insist that Christ is God’s answer, everything is due to Christ.
It is not possible to love Christ too much, you cannot think about it, thank him or rely too much on him, all our justification, all our justice, is in Christ.
Is this the gospel? The good news that our sins are placed upon Christ and that his righteousness is upon us, and that this wonderful exchange takes place for us not by works, but only by faith.
This is the good news that removes burdens, gives joy and strengthens.
