[AGNOSTO THEO] Introduction to the Knowledge of God (2)

THEO AGNOSTO? THE UNKNOWN GOD OF BELIEVERS

However, the problem is not only God’s ignorance of the unbelievers; a much bigger problem for our generation is what happened in the time of the prophet Osseas.

  • My people were destroyed for lack of knowledge; for you have rejected knowledge.
  • I too will reject you.
  • That you may not be a priest before me; and because you forgot the law of your God.
  • I too will forget your children (Osseas 4:6).

Christ cites the same problem

But Jesus, answering, said unto them, You are wrong, knowing neither the scriptures nor the power of God (Matthew 22:27).

The destruction of piety and the cooling of the love of people who pretend to be Christians in history and in this generation are intimately linked to the rejection of God’s knowledge; and this happens much more because of attitudes than by words, as evidenced by the neglect of many regular Bible readings, the rejection of systematic study of biblical doctrines, the acceptance of heresies, the revulsion of the word theology and the superficiality of pulpits, which are not only practical, but encouraging, as Paul Washer says :

There is no fear among us, for there is no knowledge of God among us

This rebuke of God the Father and God the Son clearly shows God’s desire and this is also announced in Osseas:

Why do I want [?] The knowledge of God, more than the burnt offerings?(Osseas 6: 6).

Every external religiosity has no value to God, but what He desires and seeks are worshippers who worship in spirit and truth; and such worship is linked to the pleasurable and voluntary search for God and his will, as one who has found a precious treasure and a precious pearl (Matthew 13:44-46). This spirit is expressed by the Psalmist David:

The law of the Lord is perfect and refreshes the soul; the Lord’s testimony is faithful and gives wisdom to the simple. The Precepts of the Lord are just and joyful in the heart; The Lord’s commandment is pure and illuminates the eyes. The fear of the Lord is purified and remains forever; The Lord’s judgments are both true and just; more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; sweeter than honey and liquor (Psalm 19: 7-10).

In the world, there is only one thing to look for: the knowledge of God (Robert H. Benson).
