Isaiah 9:1-7
But for the land that has been afflicted, the darkness will not continue. God in the early days made the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali despicable; but in the latter he will glorify the way to the sea, beyond the Jordan, the Galilee of the Gentiles. The people who walked in darkness saw a great light, and those who lived in the region of the shadow of death, their light shone. You have multiplied this people, your joy has increased; they rejoice before you, as they rejoice in the harvest, and as they rejoice when they share the spoil. For you have broken the yoke that weighed on them, the rod that struck their shoulders, and the scepter of their oppressor, as in the day of the Midianites; because every boot with which the warrior walks in the tumult of battle and every garment that has turned to blood will be burned, they will serve as fuel for the fire. Because a child was born to us, a child was given to us; the government is on their shoulders; and his name will be: admirable Counselor, strong God, Father of eternity, Prince of peace; for his rule to increase and peace to come upon the throne of David and upon his kingdom, to establish it and establish it with judgment and justice, henceforth and forever. The zeal of the Lord of Hosts will do this.
