A Gospel to Receive (Paul Washer) [2/26]

Since the gospel is God’s message to man, we could assume that he must provoke some kind of reaction or demand some kind of response. From our text, we learn that by hearing the gospel, the Church of Corinth received it appropriately for its great courage. and made it the foundation upon which he stood before God. To be in a good position with God, we must do the same.

For men to be saved, by the grace of God they must receive the gospel, but what does that mean? There is nothing extraordinary about receiving in Portuguese or Biblical Greek, but in the context of the Gospel, does it become extraordinary? One of the most radical words in the scriptures.

  • First.
  • When two things are opposed or opposed diametrically.
  • To receive one is to reject the other; Since there is no affinity or friendship between the gospel and the world.
  • Receiving the gospel is rejecting the world.
  • This demonstrates how radical the act of receiving the gospel can be.
  • To receive and follow the gospel call is to reject all that is seen with your eyes and.
  • In turn.
  • To have in your hands all that is not seen [1].
  • It is to reject personal autonomy and the right to autonomy to enslave a Messiah who died two thousand years ago as an enemy of the state and blasphemous; is to reject the majority and their opinions to join a censored and seemingly insignificant minority known as the Church.
  • Risk everything in this unique and unique life by believing that this crucified prophet is the Son of God and the Savior of the world.
  • To receive the gospel is not simply to pray to invite Jesus to your heart.
  • But to set the world aside and fully.
  • Embrace Christ demands.

Second, the individual who receives the gospel relies exclusively on the person and work of Jesus Christ as the only way to get right with God. It is a common maxim that depending on something in a unique way is dangerous or, at best, very reckless. Our society considers that a person is reckless if he does not have a backup plan or an emergency exit, if he has not diversified his investments, if he has put all his eggs in one basket or if he closes the doors behind him and throws the key outside. . However, this is exactly the attitude that a person who receives Jesus Christ should have. The Christian faith is exclusive. To truly receive Christ is to reject all hope that is not only in Christ. It is for this reason that the apostle Paul declares that the Christian is the most pitiable of all men if Christ is a joke. [2] If he is not the Savior, then the Christian is lost, because he has no other plan or confidence. By faith he said: “My Lord, I trust you. If you can’t or don’t want to save me, I’ll find my place in hell. I’m not going to do any other resource for me !?

The true acceptance of the Gospel implies not only contempt and abandonment of sin, but also contempt and abandonment of all trust other than Christ, especially self-confidence; therefore, a truly converted person will be disgusted practically at the slightest suggestion. that his correct position before God is the product of his own merits and virtues, and although his new life in Christ produces good works, he has given up all hope of finding in good works a means of salvation and therefore trusts exclusively in the perfect person and work of Christ.
