A Gospel of First Importance (Paul Washer) [4/26]

For what I have passed on to them for the first time is what I have received: that Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3).

There is no word or truth of greater importance than the gospel of Jesus Christ. The scriptures are filled with many messages, the smallest of which is more precious than the sum of all the riches of the world and more important than the greatest thoughts ever lived in the world. human mind. If the script powder itself is more precious than gold, how will we calculate the value and importance of the gospel?[1] Even in the scriptures themselves, the message of the gospel is unique. The history of creation, though traced in splendor, prostrates before the message of the cross. The law of Moses and the words of the prophets point beyond themselves to this unique message of redemption. Even the Second Coming, with all its wonders, remains in the remnants of the gospel. It is no exaggeration to say that the gospel of Jesus Christ is the greatest and most essential message, the acropolis of the Christian faith, the foundation of the believer’s hope [2].

  • There is nothing more important.
  • More useful.
  • And nothing else is necessary to promote the glory and kingdom of God.
  • Borrowing the language of the Proverbs.
  • One can correctly say of the gospel: “For wisdom is more profitable than money and pays more than gold.
  • It is more valuable than rubies; nothing you could wish for compares to that.
  • ?Renda3].

That being true, understanding the gospel must be our magnificent obsession; It’s an impossible task, but is every minute of effort worth it? Because there we will find all the riches of God and all the true joy for the believer. to separate ourselves from any lesser pursuits and pleasures so that we can plumb the depths of God’s grace revealed in this unique message. Job 28. 1-9 contains a beautiful illustration of such passion:

There are silver mines and places where gold is refined. Iron is extracted from the earth and copper melts from the ore. Man ends the darkness; and look for the ore in the most remote corners, in the darkest darkness. Outside the houses, he digs a well, in a place forgotten by the feet of men; away from everyone else, hangs and sways. The earth, from which the food comes, is returned as if by fire; Sapphires come out of its rocks and its powder contains gold nuggets; no bird of prey knows this hidden path, nor hawk’s eye has seen it; they do not step on aller animals, nor lion lurks; men’s hands attack the flint and upset the roots of the mountain.

Even in Job’s ancient world, there were men willing to go to the farthest reaches, deprive themselves of life on the surface, dig into the solid rock in the midst of darkness and deep darkness, risk their lives and bodies, and leave no stone uns remover. be examined in his search for the treasures of this land. How much longer should we, who have been enlightened by the Holy Ghost, be prepared and experienced the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age?renounce the things of lesser glory in pursuit of God’s glories in the gospel of Jesus Christ?[4] Why, then, is the passion for the gospel so rare among God’s people?

[2] Acropolis of the Greek derives from the words akro, meaning “big”, and courteous, meaning “city”. The Gospel is the culmination of the Christian faith, its fortified city.
