7 Biblical teachings on work

The text below was extracted with the permission of the book of the publisher Fiel A Trelia ea Videira.

1. Work is a good and fundamental part of the human being in god’s world, at first humanity was put in the garden to work and care for it.

  • 2.
  • De this side of autumn.
  • The work is cursed and frustrating (and many times we don’t know).
  • But it’s still good.
  • Dignified and necessary.

3. Christians are strongly encouraged to work, not only because of the place of work in creation, but also because work (like any other area of life) is an environment in which we serve Christ. “whether by word or deed”, should you do so “in the name of the Lord Jesus, thanking God the Father?”(Cl 3:17).

4. On a deep level, when we work in any department, we work for Christ. As Paul also said in Colossians 3: “Whatever you do, do it with all your heart, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that you will receive the reward of the Lord’s inheritance. Christ, the Lord, do you serve? (Cl 3. 23-24).

As Christians, we do not work to achieve self-realization, fame or personal praise, we do not work for ourselves but for others, to serve them, not to be a burden and to have something to share (Ephesians 4 : 28; 1 Timothy 5. 8).

Seglar work is therefore very valuable, dignified and important, but, like all good things, it can become an idol, we can begin to see our work as a way to find importance and value.

7. We must remember that only the work of Christ redeems humanity, although the secular work is very useful and beneficial in our world, it will not save or build the kingdom of Christ, this happens (as we have seen in chapter 3) only to through the Spirit-led preaching of the gospel.
